I have been a high school teacher for 15 years, in both private and public schools. Prior to that, I was a test prep and academic tutor working independently and for the Princeton Review. I have worked successfully with students ranging in age from middle school to post-college graduate. My exceptional content knowledge in a wide variety of high school and college disciplines makes me an incredibly versatile tutor. My positivity, encouragement, and unfailing belief in the abilities of all my students makes me an incredibly successful tutor. I help students not only understand content, but I help them foster a deep sense of self-efficacy, self-worth, and independence. My students gain mastery over their subject matter, and develop skills and habits of mind that ensure long-term academic success.

I have taught and tutored a wide range of math subjects, from Pre-Algebra through AP Calculus, including test prep math for the SATs, ACT, GRE, GMAT, and more. I studied math as an undergrad and as a graduate student in the MAC Education program at UM Ann Arbor. I received teaching certification with a double major in Math and English.

Beyond my qualifications in my comprehensive knowledge of content, I am a kind, supportive, encouraging tutor who offers multiple ways of understanding complex material. Mathematics especially is a topic that strikes fear in the hearts of many students, without any good reason. My success in teaching math to a wide variety of age groups and abilities stems from knowing that anyone can be a "math person." Hard work and determination, combined with a supportive and knowledgeable teacher, guarantee success in the short and long terms.

Math and English and writing need to be fun. You learn the best when you are engaged. I encourage everything from using TI calculators to counting on your fingers to help get the information across. Josh is an extremely patient, thoughtful, and skilled tutor who is effective at teaching complex mathematical concepts. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is seeking a tutor for BC calculus (a difficult subject to teach, and for which to find a skilled and competent tutor).
