Bio

My name is Nora. I hold a Master of Music in Composition from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Earlham College. Starting in fall 2026 I'll be pursuing a doctorate in composition while teaching theory and aural skills to undergraduates. My name is Nora. I hold a Master of Music in Composition from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Earlham College. Starting in fall 2026 I'll be pursuing a doctorate in composition while teaching theory and aural skills to undergraduates. Over the course of my degrees and my personal composition work, I've gained a deep understanding of music theory. I know the challenges and pitfalls learners are likely to encounter, and can help you approach and overcome them with confidence.

I will tailor my lesson plans to align with your personal goals. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced student, interested in branching out into composition or just passing your freshman theory course, I am ready to help you. I have experience teaching in summer programs for students ages 7-18, in elementary, middle school, and college level classrooms, and adult classes, not to mention hundreds of hours of private tutoring.

I earned a B.A. in vocal performance from Earlham College and an M.M. in Composition from the University of Michigan, completing music theory coursework at both institutions as well as at Macalester College and Berklee Online. I've been teaching in a wide variety of contexts, from private tutoring to classroom instruction since 2016.

My homeschooling teenage son had been experimenting with teaching himself Japanese for about a year and was looking for someone to help him study more formally.
