I am a former high school teacher and current college professor. Education is a passion of mine. I love the challenge of breaking material down and helping a student build it back up into a personally-meaningful understanding. The fact that a real person's real future is impacted by my work gives it meaning beyond the joy of the material.

I also truly enjoy the material I teach. The world is a wondrous place, and I am delighted to help others share in the wonder. I try to provide students with the tools they need to be able to learn on their own, so that they will continue to learn and grow and enjoy the complexity around them!

I am a licensed teacher (6-12th, all sciences) and have taught in the public schools. I regularly apply the insights I gained in my education coursework to teaching college students. I have TAed multiple classes at U of M, including Biology, Microbiology, and Genetics. I am currently a professor at another school, where I teach Biology, Microbiology, and Cell Biology on a regular basis. I have taught Anatomy and recently led a delightful excursion in the form of an introductory Botany and Zoology class. In addition to teaching in-person classes, I also work with adult learners via online classes, and am comfortable working with individuals who are returning to the material after a prolonged break.

I come from a homeschool background, and am delighted to provide tutoring and enrichment to homeschool students. I am familiar with Montessori methods, and try to incorporate methods to make abstract ideas more concrete and relatable. I have a child in elementary school, and so am familiar with the local elementary curriculum. I am happy to work with younger students.
