I thoroughly enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge of math and physics with students. I'm very patient with students and strive to find methods to explain topics in ways that match each student's needs. It's very satisfying to see a student's confidence and enjoyment of the subject grow as their understanding improves. I have taught and tutored on and off from graduate school until today. Most recently, I have taught physics at Henry Ford College and currently tutor math and physics at Washtenaw Community College.

I have a master's degree in physics and have worked as an engineer for many years. As a student of physics and a professional engineer, I have studied math, particularly calculus and linear algebra, at many levels, and applied it extensively. That gives me both a solid theoretical and practical understanding of the subject and allows me to explain the concepts from a variety of perspectives to make the concepts less abstract and more connected to their own experiences.

Physics has been a passion for me since my first class in college. That class, and those that followed, showed me that I could understand how the world around me worked and that it could be explained through the basic laws of physics and mathematics. I love showing students how the concepts they learn in physics relate to their own observations of motion, light, sound, heat, etc and I've found that making connections between the concepts and the student's own experience with the world significantly improves their understanding of the topic. Additionally, my experience as an engineer allows me to explain topics using examples from a variety of different disciplines and make what they are learning relevant to them.

Thorough and Clutch!

We are so grateful for Mark G.’s help! My son had fallen behind in his 9th grade physics class during the semester and was feeling overwhelmed heading into his final exam. With very little time, Mark truly saved the day. He was kind, patient, and incredibly thorough, focusing on helping my son genuinely understand the material rather than just memorizing formulas. Mark has a great way of making difficult concepts relatable and manageable, which quickly rebuilt my son’s confidence. Thanks to his dedication and genuine investment in my son’s success, he did well on his final. I would highly recommend Mark to any student who needs help with physics, whether at a basic or more advanced level.

Kind and helpful

My daughter's "beginning physics" class is a spring course and is only 6 weeks long. It requires a lot of prior knowledge that she does not have. Mark easily assessed her needs, put her mind a ease, and is not only teaching her the material from the course, but the material she needed to know and never received prior to the course. She feels hopeful now!
