Hi there, I’m Brooklyn. I am a PhD-trained writing and humanities tutor and a Graduate Student Instructor at the University of Michigan where I am a doctoral candidate in American Culture. I support my undergraduate students in academic writing, critical reading, and analytical thinking.

Throughout my own undergraduate career at UCLA, I worked as a private tutor for elementary, middle and high school students giving me experience supporting learners at a wide range of academic levels. As a university instructor, I regularly help students navigate complex assignments, dense readings, and high expectations. I have experience supporting students from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including first-generation college students and those adjusting to advanced-level work for the first time.

My tutoring approach is collaborative and student-centered: rather than simply editing or correcting grammar, I work with students to strengthen arguments, clarify ideas, and develop a clear, confident academic voice. I am especially passionate about helping students feel less intimidated by writing and more confident in their ability to express ideas clearly and effectively. Sessions are structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s goals. Whether you’re refining an essay or building skills from the ground up, I focus on strategies students can carry into future work.

United States History

I am a U.S. historian with experience teaching multiple history courses at the University of Michigan as a graduate student instructor. I specialize in post-Reconstruction U.S. history, with expertise in topics such as race, politics, and social change. As a member and presenter at the Organization of American Historians, I stay actively engaged in current historical scholarship. In tutoring, I help students analyze primary and secondary sources, develop historical arguments, and strengthen their writing and critical thinking skills.
