Thank you for checking out my profile! My name is Valerie and I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. I am planning to dual major in English and Psychology, two topics I greatly enjoy. My main interest is anything that has to do with reading and writing. I scored a 790 on my SAT reading, have won multiple writing competitions including the Scholastic Writing award, and have received many certificates of literary achievement including the Texas UIL Literary Criticism Regional Award.

For the past four years I have worked as a tutor online, in person, one-on-one, and in group settings. I have experience with SAT reading prep, essay proofreading, and grammar support for high school students. I ran an online "SAT Bootcamp" for six months, in which I helped students raise their reading scores at least one hundred points via a sustained method of practice and mistake analysis. I have also aided high school students with college essays, literary analysis essays, and even creative writing essays. My strength lies in proofreading for grammatical errors and clarity while also helping students focus on improving the effective parts of their essays.

I have also worked with elementary school students in a variety of subjects, and am willing to work with middle school students as well. The bulk of my experience with these age groups has been during my time as an assistant teacher at Warner Elementary School. As an assistant teacher, I was often in charge of patiently guiding small groups of children who were behind on the lesson. I also often worked one-on-one with ESL students. I have plenty of experience both helping students catch up with the rest of the class or get ahead of the class depending on their individual needs. As a tutor, my goal is to understand exactly how a student learns, and curate a lesson plan that best supports them. With my personalized assistance, students can expect to see concrete results regarding their grades and test scores!

Understanding and Dedicated tutor

I've worked with Valerie on college supplementals, and I can say that she's been super cooperative with my time zone, which helped me turn my applications in on time. She always asks for my input on her advice throughout my writing and makes sure the session is time- efficient. Overall, Valerie is great at time management too, and has been helpful let it be asking any questions regarding the whole college process in general.

Expert, Patient, and Calm

Right from the start her knowledge was obvious. She is really well-qualified and knows everything about the SAT test; the format, the questions, and the tricks. Also, she is incredibly patient. She never made me feel rushed and She makes our study sessions feel low-stress, which is perfect for calming the mind on a high stress test like the SAT. Valerie makes it a safe space to make mistakes and learn from them properly. Personally, I struggle most with the reading and writing section, but this is where Valerie does exceptionally well. She has an amazing gift for explaining exactly why my wrong answers were wrong, and how to clearly find the correct choice instead. She doesn't just give me the answers; she teaches me the best strategy's. Whether we are working on finding evidence in the Reading passages or fixing grammar issues in essay samples, she always has a clear idea. She showed me that most mistakes follow simple rules. This helped me finally understand the test much better than previously. I highly recommend Valerie to any student who is serious about scoring their best on the SAT!
