I just finished my 24th year as an English teacher this month. I love it, and it's hard to believe that this much time has passed. I just finished my 24th year as an English teacher this month. I love it, and it's hard to believe that this much time has passed. I have taught at three different schools: Romulus High School, Cranbrook Educational Community, and Greenhills School, and have enjoyed my time at all three because of the kids.
I was a student teacher for 8th grade, but most of my experience has been in Upper School and High School. The youngest kids I have taught have been in 6th grade. For the past seven years, I was the English Department Chair, so when I was scheduling, I often put myself in classes that we needed filling. It was a blast teaching 6th grade.
Last year I taught two senior seminars. One was Poetry Appreciation and the other was Race and Gender. Next year, I will teach those as well as African American Literature and Modern Global Literature. I will also teach two sections of American Literature. In the past I have taught AP American Lit (and prepared kids for the language test). I have taught Creative Writing many times too, and was the advisor for the literary magazine.
I have a theater background, so I'm happy to help with interp for auditions, public speaking, or forensics (which I have also coached).
In my current job, I also have the opportunity to work with students one-on-one, which I enjoy.
