I am a college sophomore at Grand Valley State University majoring in Psychology, with a strong academic background in math and a passion for helping students feel confident in their abilities. As a college student, I understand how important it is to have concepts explained in a way that actually makes sense, and I enjoy breaking math down into simple, manageable steps. My academic experience has helped me develop strong problem-solving skills, patience, and the ability to explain ideas clearly in a supportive way.
I have experience helping elementary and middle school students with math through one-on-one homework support and informal tutoring, including assisting peers and younger students with foundational topics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and basic problem solving. I focus on identifying where a student feels confused and working from there, rather than rushing through material. My tutoring style is encouraging and student-centered, and I adjust my approach based on each child’s learning style and pace.
My goal as a tutor is to help students not only improve their math skills, but also build confidence and reduce frustration around the subject. I believe math can feel less intimidating when students feel supported and understood. I work best with elementary and middle school students who need extra help with homework, test preparation, or strengthening their math foundations, and I strive to create a positive and comfortable learning environment for every student I work with.
