Nice to meet you; I am Daniel.

I am the coordinator of the physics program at John Jay College, the City University of New York. I have been privileged to serve as physics coordinator since 2012. I continue to teach an average of four physics courses per semester while assisting and managing an enthusiastic team of adjunct physics faculty members. I have been teaching and tutoring physics, mathematics, philosophy, and related topics for more than 30 years.

To this day, I remain fortunate enough also to teach one physics course a year for advanced high school seniors at Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, New York. In short, I love working with students of all ages and all abilities. I cannot imagine not teaching -- and I cannot imagine teaching only one type of idea to only one type of person.

Physics, calculus, and trigonometry can sometimes sound or seem intimidating at first. I have found, however, that with a little open-mindedness and a little patience, just about anyone can break through the most seemingly frustrating of mental barriers. To me, there is nothing quite like the joy of discovering that we knew something all the while; we just did not know we knew it.

I hold a PhD in Science Education from Columbia University and a Master's Degree in Physics from City College of New York. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Amherst College with a Bachelor's degree both in Physics and in Philosophy.

Before I started working at City University of New York, I had taught at independent schools in Louisiana, New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Massachusetts. I have worked happily with students as young as kindergarten and as old as graduate school. My primary purpose is to help people chip away at preconceived notions they might have -- regarding their own limits in the face of quantitative studies.

I look forward to finding out what you look forward to figuring out!

I am Coordinator for the Physics Program at John Jay College, the City University of New York. I have been coordinating and teaching calculus-based physics at the College since 2012. Before coming to John Jay, I had been teaching physics, mathematics, philosophy and related subjects at independent high schools in Louisiana, New York, Connecticut, North Carolina and Massachusetts since 1992. I hold a PhD in Science Education from Columbia University Teachers College. I hold an MA in Physics from the City College of New York. I hold a BA in Physics and in Philosophy, Magna Cum Laude, from Amherst College. I regard algebra as a beautiful foundation for so many areas of mathematics and science. It is always part of my work and my joy.

In particular, I developed a geometry > trigonometry curriculum in North Carolina that is used at many schools to this day. I love sharing subjects of all kinds to students of all ages. I hold a PhD in Science Education from Columbia University Teachers College. I hold an MA in Physics from the City College of New York. I hold a BA in Physics and in Philosophy, Magna Cum Laude, from Amherst College. I regard geometry as a beautiful foundation for so many other subjects in mathematics. It is always part of my work and my joy.
Logic

Logic

I am the coordinator for the physics program at John Jay College, the City University of New York. I have been teaching physics for more than 30 years. Before earning a PhD in Science Education from Columbia University Teachers College and an MA in Physics from City College of New York, I earned a BA magna cum laude from Amherst College in Physics and in Philosophy. My undergraduate honors thesis used twentieth-century symbolic logic in order to modernize, analyze and deconstruct an 11th century derivation known as Anselm's Ontological Argument. Fluency in both propositional and predicate logic were assumed by this thesis. While at Amherst College, I served as a TA for the undergraduate course in symbolic logic.

In particular, my life revolves around a deep awareness that not everyone's life revolves around physics. Not everyone chooses to study it. But I believe that everyone can choose to find more success and joy with physics than they might have expected.
