Hello & happy learning! My name is Jacqui. I am an experienced tutor and university graduate Magna Cum Laude. I have my Bachelor's in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Geology, plus a strong background in academic writing, reading, English, and SAT/ACT test prep. Starting at university, I have tutored elementary, middle school, high school and college-aged students, both one-on-one and in small group settings.

I pride myself on my ability to connect with students, fostering their individual strengths as to better support and round-out their growing areas. As such, I am always eager to help students navigate their education and confidence, alongside learning differences such as ADHD and dyslexia, which I believe come with incredible strengths and unique talents, as well as some neurological trade-offs. Though not currently certified, I utilize tools from the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching with all students, and especially among students with these learning differences.

Every student is as unique as the goals they bring in. My work is in identifying the ways they best learn and engage with the material, then modifying my approach to suit their needs, and ultimately, achieving their goals from a position of strength. My passion is identifying and cultivating each student's unique, individual, innate talents, then teaching them how to use those strengths to achieve their goals, grow their confidence, and empower their future. Knowledge of grammar is the foundation to writing, which is arguably the most important form of communication used in business and academia. My personal passion for grammar, syntax, and vocabulary was solidified after 4 years of higher education, where I earned a Bachelor's degree. At university, my ability to communicate complex scientific principles easily and understandably through proper grammar earned me not only a degree, but a degree Magna Cum Laude ("with great distinction"). I have tutored this subject for years, with various age groups, both independently and at various education LLC's including Huntington Learning Center and BeeDiscovered LLC.

I began tutoring for Reading after graduating from university, where I obtained my Bachelor's. I also have a personal passion for reading, and enjoy helping students "cut through the fog," of extraneous information, misleading questions and confusing verbiage that are commonly found in Reading exercises. This allows students to first understand what is actually important, and how to find it in the text if they missed it on the first read. I have tutored Reading skills for elementary, middle school, and high school aged students, both independently and at various education LLC's

I also have a personal passion for reading, and enjoy helping students "cut through the fog" to simplify confusing verbiage and identify "tricky" answers, which are commonly found in SAT Reading exercises.

I began tutoring for SAT writing after graduating from university. Writing and reading have been passions of mine since I was young. Most of my classes in university had strong writing components that I found success using, earning myself a Bachelor's degree with high honors, due to my proficiency writing and editing academic papers. Over so many years in education and university, and much personal time and practice, I have found great proficiency in it.

I began tutoring for spelling and phonics after graduating from university, where I obtained my Bachelor's. I primarily taught this subject to elementary and middle school students, independently and at various education LLC's. When tutoring in Spelling, I practice a fair amount of patience and empathy as students often arrive frustrated and discouraged by the complexity of spelling within the English language, which itself is an amalgamation of many other, less familiar languages.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

As a lifelong reader, college graduate, and experienced tutor I have developed a wide-ranging vocabulary and a thorough understanding of etymology. Rather than supplying an answer, I teach my students how to define a word based on its component parts, and how to look for those parts, or to think of other words with similar parts that tey are more familiar with, in order to infer the meaning of an unfamiliar word. I have tutored in vocabulary for over years, both independently and with different education LLC's including Huntington Learning Center and BeeDiscovered LLC. I have experience teaching elementary, middle school and collegiate-level vocabulary.

Writing and reading have been passions of mine since I was young. Most of my classes in university had strong writing components that I found success using. Over so many years in education and university, and much personal time and practice, I have found great proficiency in it.
