Hi, I'm Ellen. I graduated from Iowa State University with a Master's in Wildlife Ecology. I have worked as a wildlife and fisheries biologist, and love field work. I especially enjoy bird-watching. I also love sharing my knowledge of field biology with other people.
I also have experience as a Literacy Volunteer working with students from other countries who wanted to learn English. It was very rewarding to see my students learn English and be able to communicate with people in the community, be able to do their shopping, and talk with their children's teachers at school.
In school I studied wildlife biology, and did research on catbirds for my Master's project. I have worked at sea as a fisheries biology technician, collecting data on the ocean life. I have been a student of biology all of my life, because I love learning more about the ecology of living beings, such as birds, fish, and plants.
I spent a year and a half in Belize working with missionaries, and spent part of my time teaching Bible classes to church members of The Church of God. I was a Literacy Volunteer in New Britain, CT, for four years, spending one evening a week teaching English to immigrants from other counties.
I would enjoy sharing my knowledge with my students, and also share resources they can use to study in the field or community on their own.
