Experienced Tutoring from Licensed Latin Teacher with MA in Teaching

Hello, my name is David and I'm a licensed Latin teacher currently teaching in New England. I completed a Masters of Arts in Teaching (Latin and Classical Humanities) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2018, and previously received a BA in Classical Studies from the University of Chicago. I have been tutoring students of all different ages and levels of Latin for over a decade.

The most influential teachers I ever had were my high school Latin teachers; they inspired in me both a passion for Latin and the classics, and also a love of teaching. My passion led me to become heavily involved in Latin competitions in high school, where I got four perfect scores on the National Latin Exam, earned first place four years in a row on the Illinois Latin Tournament, and received countless awards from the National Junior Classical League, including a national championship in certamen (Latin quiz bowl). My love for teaching inspired me to volunteer with local high schools' Latin clubs while I was in college, and to pursue a career as a Latin teacher after graduation. I taught beginning and intermediate Latin courses to college students at UMass while studying Latin pedagogy, and have spent the last four years teaching at the middle and high school level.

My main goal is to make one-on-one tutoring worthwhile by really adapting my lessons to the student's level. For example, I am happy to drill basic verb or noun patterns with a novice student, but am equally prepared to explain very difficult constructions or nuances of the language when I sense that a student is ready for them. I can help with vocabulary, grammar, translation, scanning Latin poetry, analyzing a Latin text -- you name it!
