University of Maine (Master's)
I am currently working with special education students within the Bangor school system and I privately tutor algebra I and II. I have been a science teacher at the community college and university level for 20 years. I have taught all aspects of Biology including Human Anatomy & Physiology, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Genetics, and Marine Biology. I have also taught Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and my specialty is Molecular Biology. I have tutored algebra to college students as well.
My experience in teaching is mostly science and math to students from kindergarten to seniors at the university level. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Anatomy and Physiology for about 15 years to nursing students. I taught this class in NC, and in Maine at KVCC and EMCC.
I have a masters degree in Biochemistry. I have taught Biochemistry at UMA and Husson, and I taught Biochemistry lab at UMO.
I have a BS in Biology. I also taught General Biology at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC and I taught the summer Biology at UMO for 4 years. I taught the labs that were concurrent with the lectures.
I taught botany as part of a semester at a community college. I learned how to identify many different types of plants, fungi, and algae. I also learned the physiology of vascular plants and non-vascular plants.
I have taught inorganic and organic chemistry to allied health students at UMO and Husson. I have also taught many on the labs. I taught an organic chemistry class and the associated lab at UMA. I also taught the labs at UMO.
I took many classes in genetics as well as teaching Mendelian and Non-Mendelian genetics to community college and college biology students. I can teach Punnett squares and statisical formulas to determine the chances of a particular genotype to occur in a cross.
I taught Organic Chemistry in two universities as well as taking advanced organic chemistry while a graduate student. I know how to teach glucose metabolism as well as protein chemistry. I spent 10 years working in a lab using many skills used in any organic chemistry lab.
My undergraduate degree was in vertebrate biology but I learned invertebrate biology as a marine biology graduate student. I also taught zoology to community college students for 10 years. I know how to teach phylogeny and can show students examples of animals within each class by taking them on field trips.
