I am currently a student at Vanderbilt University in the College of Arts and Science, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Medicine, Health, and Society with a minor in Business. Throughout my academic experience, I have found that the classes that make the biggest impact are the ones where the teacher truly takes the time to make the material understandable and engaging. That idea has shaped the way I approach tutoring. I enjoy helping students break down complex topics into manageable pieces so that they not only get the right answer, but also understand the reasoning behind it.
During high school, I had several opportunities to work directly with students in academic settings. I served as an Honors Biology Teaching Assistant, where I helped support classroom activities and assisted students with lab work and assignments. I also worked as a student tutor, helping peers strengthen their understanding of math and science concepts. In addition, I was a teaching assistant for American Sign Language courses in my school’s Modern Language Department, where I worked closely with students to help them practice vocabulary, finger spelling, and conversational signing. These experiences helped me learn how to explain material in different ways depending on how each student learns best.
Outside of the classroom, I currently teach private piano lessons to younger students, which has further developed my ability to work one-on-one and adapt lessons to each individual learner. My tutoring style focuses on creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges. I believe that when students feel confident and supported, they are much more likely to succeed. My goal is not only to help students improve in a specific subject, but also to help them build the skills and confidence they need to approach difficult material independently.
