Enthusiastic 20-Year English Teacher

I have been a passionate high school English teacher for twenty years but my love of literature began when I was very young and I am still an avid reader today. I began my career in Buffalo, New York, but have been teaching in Maine for the past thirteen years. The joy of my job is working with students, watching them grow and learn, helping them gain deeper understandings of life through literature and writing.

I am a single mom with two teenagers that have required my at-home tutoring skills for years on their many English assignments and I am proud to be sending one off to college in September. I am also proud of my relationships with my students over these many years--still in touch with many I taught years ago. I pride myself on getting to know my students as individuals and helping them recognize their own strengths, skills, and abilities.

I have taught a variety of high school English subjects including poetry, Shakespeare, Writing, Short Stories, College Essay Workshops, American Literature, etc. with a varied student population of all abilities including special education students.

I am currently certified to teach English grades 7-12
I am certified to teach AP English -- have been teaching this course for 7 years.
I have extensive experience proofreading and editing
I am an avid reader who has taught literature for twenty years.

In this difficult time my own students are struggling with this transition to distance/remote learning and I'm assuming many of you are as well.
