Certified K-8 Teacher specializing in ELA, available for content

Theodore L.

I am a certified teacher in Midcoast Maine. I hold an active, legacy K-8 Elementary certificate. The State of Maine recently changed their certification structures, but because I have maintained my certification since 2017, I continue to hold this certification.

I am comfortable with students of all ages, but middle grade students (6th-8th grade) have been the focus of my career in education. I enjoy this age group with all their developmental milestones, and challenges! Understanding how students' brains at this age work is one of my personal side quests- there is so much happening in there that you almost need a special qualification to understand it all.

English Language Arts is my specialty, but I'm am comfortable and confident supporting student learning in all content areas. Besides teaching Reading and Writing for many years now, I also teach Social Studies including Geography, Ancient Civilizations, and US History. I have taught these subjects primarily at the middle school level, but have had the opportunity in my current school to explore teaching other contents; I was blessed to teach 4th grade for one year as a temporary assignment. For several years I had the opportunity to teach French as a world language while developing a middle school Literacy RTI program.

I enjoy making connections with students and finding out who they are as people. My best days as a teacher are when my students have organic learning experiences they share with excitement!
