I have spent more than 15 years helping middle and high school students become stronger, more confident learners. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in History from Clark University and a Master of Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston. I am certified to teach Social Studies in grades 5–12 and am currently completing the Maine Department of Education credentialing process for K–12 ESOL certification. I currently teach high school ESOL, working with multilingual and newcomer students who are developing English literacy, academic language, and content-area skills. My experience includes teaching both Social Studies and ESOL in classroom, small-group, and individualized settings.
One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is figuring out how each student learns best. My approach is patient, encouraging, and individualized while maintaining high expectations. I regularly work with students with very different academic backgrounds and abilities, so I am comfortable breaking challenging material into manageable steps. I use strategies such as modeling, guided practice, visuals, discussion, and real-world connections to help students understand concepts and build confidence.
Whether I am helping with English language development, reading and writing, history and social studies, or general academic skills, my goal is to provide more than help with an assignment. I want students to understand the material, recognize their progress, and develop strategies they can eventually use independently. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing as learners.
