As a tutor, I maintain a friendly and relaxed relationship with my students, so they can see that chemistry is not as scary as they might think. Chemistry can be a challenging subject, and if you're looking for a tutor, it's likely because you or your child is struggling with a chemistry class. When students are struggling, it can bring down their self-esteem and make learning a miserable experience. I believe that any student can understand even some of the most complicated concepts in chemistry with the right explanation and when they feel empowered to work hard.
My chemistry education began as an undergraduate student at Connecticut College. I started my tutoring career during this period as well, working in the math help center all four years that I was there. Students would come in frustrated and defeated with their calculus work, but by the time they left, they understood the material and were feeling more hopeful. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I went on to earn a master’s degree at Yale University in inorganic chemistry. While I was there, my favorite experience was working as a teaching assistant. I won the top teaching award in my first year, and I decided then that I wanted to pursue a career in education.
I went on to teach high school chemistry at all levels (introductory, honors, and Advanced Placement) for the next seven years at one of the big eight private boarding schools in New England. In 2019, I moved back to my home state, and I've been teaching chemistry labs at an elite college since then in a number of different courses: introductory, organic, environmental, and analytical chemistry. My students have given me glowing reviews over the years, and they all tend to comment on my ability to clearly explain chemistry concepts and my friendly and positive demeanor. I love helping students figure out these chemistry concepts that I find so fascinating, and I look forward to helping you reach your chemistry goals!
