Learning can and should be fun. I have been teaching, directing, writing and performing for the theatre for over 30 years. I have taught speech, acting, film criticism and debate at the junior high and high school levels and acting, theatre history and voice for the actor at the college level.
I have also written and directed musical plays, one of which was produced in Readfield, Maine,in 1982, starring 17 year old Patrick Dempsey.
Currently I am the program coordinator for a 21st century afterschool program for low performing students.
I, myself, am a kinesthetic learner. If I follow a recipe from a book, I always have to use the book to cook. If someone shows me how to cook something, I never forget it. For that reason, I find theatre exercises and games involving the whole body, to be an effective way of getting the learning not just into the head...but into the body, where it has more resonance and staying power. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied piano for 12 years, soloed twice with the local symphony. I also taught piano privately a number of years ago.
I taught public speaking for 9 years at Ursuline Academy of Dallas and Providence School of Girls in San Antonio, TX.
I have written over 200 songs and written 3 musical plays. I studied composition with Willie Maiden at UMA
I taught theatre for 13 years at The Dallas Theater Center, Ursuline Academy of Dallas, University of Texas, Tyler, Texas, Providence School for Girls, San Antonio, Texas. I was theatre director at Lon Morris College from 2000-2004. I currently teach acting at The Public Theatre Summer Teen Workshop in Lewiston, Maine. I teach oral history theatre at the UMA Senior College. I have written and directed several musical plays. I am a member of Actors Equity Association, American Federation of Radio and Television Artists and the Screen Actors Guild.
