Hello! My name is Gregory. I am 30 years old and currently a Middle School English Language Arts Teacher in a private school in Baltimore County. Prior to this, I have worked in Harford County Public Schools as well as served as a Technology teacher and director for grades TK - 5th grade in a Howard County private school. I have also spent a year teaching English as a Second Language to students in Busan, South Korea.
I am certified to teach Elementary Education and Middle School English Language Arts in the state of Maryland. In addition, I have passed the state exams for Middle School Content Areas (Science, Language Arts, Social Studies).
My academic background is as diverse as my scholastic interests. I graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Philosophy and supporting areas in English and Psychology. In this way, I have studied areas ranging from the liberal arts and humanities to science. While I favor the liberal arts, I share an equal passion for the sciences.
I subscribe to an interactive method of teaching where both student and teacher are cooperative participants. I believe this to be an effective strategy as each individual learns in a unique manner and at their own pace. The teacher's mastery of the material should be a given and it is therefore the teacher's responsibility to link material to the student's prior knowledge and ultimately to the student's life. In doing so, the teacher can inspire a lifelong passion for the subject at hand and also lifelong learning in general.
In my free time, I enjoy reading about psychology and philosophy and a diverse selection of literature. In this way, I consider myself a perpetual student who has a passion for teaching others and sharing a passion for learning. We have so much to learn from one another and I welcome to opportunity to be a part of the learning process for people of all ages.
