My love for teaching led me to a second career in education. I taught public + private school, online learning, and as an Adjunct Professor in community college. I teach/tutor Spanish (Corporate, K-12, Travel), ESL, English Grammar, Reading, Writing, Editing, Social Media, Marketing, Career Development, Public Speaking and Event Planning. My students have ranged from Pre-K, all elementary & high school grades, plus community college, military personnel and senior citizens!

My initial career was in Journalism. I'm a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Spanish. Advanced certifications include Professional Teaching, Corporate Spanish, Digital Marketing plus Sales, Marketing & Event Planning expertise.

For 16 years I have worked with adults, teaching Continuing Education for many private teaching organizations. I have taught the national teaching exam, Praxis, as a prep class. Hundreds of students have scored highly on ACT English, TOEFL, SAT, TEAS and ASVAB after working with me on their unique, individual challenges. I am very knowledgeable in many strategies to work with children and adult learners. We can get rid of anything that is holding you back from success! My family is military. I have taught on several military bases to soldiers who were transitioning out of the military, into college. My husband is a retired military recruiter, who still works on base, with the recruiting/testing departments of the Army. He co-tutors with me AND can advise or prep students for any branch of the military. He was a recruiter for 9 years of his 30 year Army career. As for me, for 16 years I have worked with adults, teaching Continuing Education for many private teaching organizations. English, grammar, writing and editing are my passion! I can spot a grammatical error like a neon sign. I can hear incorrect English screaming through a sentence. I use many techniques to help students, both children and adults, identify common mistakes in English. As an Adjunct Professor in the Language Department of Prince George's Community College, I created and wrote the curriculum & materials for courses titled: "Improving Your English" and "Polishing Your Professional Image". I can help you pass an English test, the SAT or ACT, write more effectively, create an "A" quality paper/report, or speak better. My Journalism degree included over 20 credits in English grammar, literature and writing. I also have certification in English as a Second Language, which increased my study of the mechanics of English.

The Journalism training created an expert Grammarian, Writer, Editor and Public Speaker in me! I still do live broadcast segments on national news shows. My vocabulary, writing and grammar skills led me to being hired twice by the Washington Post newspaper, AOL and many published articles in a variety of media outlets.

I am a news and lifestyle media personality. I have appeared on countless live broadcasts on shows such as Good Morning America, Inside edition, plus local news on CBS, NBC and FOX. I teach Public Speaking and Polishing Your Professional Image for several Community Colleges as an Adjunct Professor.

Since 2011, I have been an active Substitute for Prince George's County Public Schools. I have held long-term sub positions in Reading, Language Arts several times over the years. I am an experienced classroom teacher with Catholic schools also. At Anne Arundel Community College, Baltimore City Community College and Prince George's Community College. In spare time, I serve as a "reader" for many organizations, reading to children's groups and students who are learning English as a Second Language.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Magazine writing, from the University of Maryland. I have been an editor throughout my career. I have work experience in advertising agencies "proofing copy", which means to read the entire ad, including punctuation, out loud, to a colleague or to myself, to correct spelling and grammatical errors. I now teach English, reading, Spanish and Grammar, which requires expert spelling. I use many methods to help students memorize spelling. I also incorporate a little bit of Latin language rules to help break down words by their meanings. Phonics also help a lot with spelling.
TOEFL

I am a native English speaker. I studied Spanish for 9 years, and it was my minor in college. I took the practice TOEFL test and scored 100%. I took the test so I will be able to help you with specific parts of the test. I have helped hundreds of students score highly on many professional and college entrance tests. I teach ESL/ELL to adults and high school students.

As a journalist, I have taken many classes on descriptive writing, which means I must know exact vocabulary to express the right information. I passed the SAT test in 8th grade! My score was high enough for me to enter college. When I tutor on vocabulary, test taking and spelling, I use many references from Latin, Spanish, French and common English words to help students understand the meaning of almost any word. My lessons are fun and involve many memory tools.
