Hello! And welcome to Mr. J's tutoring page.

I am graduate of the prestigious Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut. I studied English and English Education. I was also fortunate enough to graduate with my first Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Go Huskies!

I am formally trained, former classroom teacher turned HR Professional with experience in 6-12 English. This is my 10th year in the education world! I have been a tutor for years in various capacities.

Formally, I have worked as a tutor for three years with the Huntington Learning Center model, where I worked with students in grades K-12 on skills relative to English, foundational Math, test prep (to include SAT, ACT, SSAT (all levels), ISEE (all levels), HSPT, HiSET, and ASVAB), foundational level Spanish, Study Skills, and College Essay/Application.

I build all of my lessons in sequential order using backwards design. By understanding where we our destination is, I use this information to build a road map for the most efficient, effective, and engaging way to get there. I believe in using many different mediums to engage students. I also believe that strategies and building "game plans" for success are paramount to student success, particularly around test preparation and study skill development.

I believe in differentiation for learning. I think that there is no such thing as one sized fits all in education. It is important to me to understand the goals and objectives of my students and to get to know them as people. This allows me to tailor my content and my approach and this has garnered a lot of success throughout my career. It is my ultimate goal to ensure your student's success and goals are met. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
