In my senior year, I became the trumpet section leader, overseeing 10 players and guiding them throughout the year to become the best versions of themselves. Under my direction we improved our range, articulation, and dynamic contrast throughout the school year.
I am currently a student at Bowie State University, majoring in psychology (although I may as well be a music major with all the classes I take). I'm taking concert, marching, and jazz band as well as weekly tutoring sessions during the semester. Since joining, I've had a lot of time to work on my range and endurance. I'm able to play for hours at a time without much trouble, in ranges that would've been impossible for me during high school.
I've led multiple sectionals during high school and college, leading by example in order to make sure that a piece of music is played excellently, and with attention to the composer's intentions. I'm very experienced in reading music, discerning complicated rhythms, and paying attention to things such as dynamic contrast and key signatures. I'd also like to say that alongside leading my peers, I have experience in helping to teach my younger brother how to play saxophone.
