I am a retired master teacher with over 40 years' experience teaching/tutoring elementary/middle school subjects--mathematics being my specialty. I have had 4 recent years experience teaching GED classes part-time for Carroll Community College in Westminster. Here my students learned the five core subjects including Reading, Language Arts and Essay Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics. Many of my students have gone on to earn their Maryland High School Diplomas. I have also tutored over a dozen young adults to prepare for the military ASVAB test, leading to successful careers with the armed services.
I am a very patient, creative and dynamic tutor who has the years of experience to know the best methods and techniques to help you learn and ultimately reach your desired goal.
I guarantee that you or your child will demonstrate academic growth and improved self-confidence with my expert assistance.

I would highly recommend Paul as a tutor. I consider myself to be one of the most difficult people to even attempt to teach. Because of my learning challenges I have had difficulty in the past understanding math concepts and found it even more difficult to retain information. Paul has been extremely patient with me. He took the time to understand what my unique learning challenges were, what my end goal was, and designed a program uniquely suited to my situation and learning challenges. I feel very confident that with Paul's ability to teach and the strategy he has design that I will reach my goals.
Mr. Paul is one of the kindest people that I have ever met. He is not only kind, but a great teacher as well. His lessons are geared towards you and go at the pace that works best for how you learn. He will go step by step with stuff that you need help on until you feel more confident in that skill. For me, I needed extra help with the math on the ASVAB because most of the math on the test is Algebra One and it has been a few years since I have taken that course. We went page by page in the math section and the stuff that I knew we flew by, but the stuff I had trouble on we took it slow and really got in depth with the material until I better understood it. Eventually, it came very easy for me to do.
Another area we worked on was word knowledge. I thought he wouldn’t be able to help me with this subject because with word knowledge I always thought you either knew the word or you didn’t, but with Mr. Paul that wasn’t the case. He showed me how using the prefixes and suffixes can help you determine what the whole word means by only knowing part of the word. He was able to give me study material so I would be able to remember some of those prefixes and suffixes. I would recommend Mr. Paul to anyone that is in need of getting a better ASVAB score or even just to get extra help in some school subjects.
I needed help with math. I had other tutors but I have to say Mr. Paul was so creative in his teaching method. I feel like he listened to me and heard my concerns then tailored his approach specifically for me so I was able to grasp math concepts. I would definitely recommend Mr. Paul and will use him again to tutor me in the future!
Mr W. has been invaluable with helping my daughter with her algebra. My daughter is in the 7th Grade, and is taking pre-algebra. She didn't take any of the pre-algebra courses in the 6th grade, but because of her exceptional scores on the PSSAs, was assigned the advanced math course. Couple this with the fact that she is almost a year younger than her peers because of her birthday, and she is at quite a dis-advantage. Mr. W. has helped my daughter immensely. He is a Master at his art, calm with my daughter, and very flexible and responsive. You can give your children many things, but love and a great education are things that will last a life time and can never be taken away. Paul has enabled me to give my daughter the tools she needs to be successful.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During the past 6 years, I have tutored over a dozen young adults to review and prepare for the ASVAB exam. I can also help you to achieve a score that will get you into the military branch of your choice.
I have been playing and teaching chess for over 40 years. Specifically, I ran a chess club for elementary students in an after-school program with Recreation & Parks.
I have over 30 years' experience teaching elementary and middle school subjects, especially mathematics, for both Baltimore County and Carroll County Public Schools. My Bachelor's Degree is in Elementary Education and I have a Master's Degree in School Administration and Supervision.
I have taught mathematics to elementary and middle school students for over 20 years. Math is my specialty. Progressing from the basic and concrete, I will show you how and why math "works" and gradually develop an understanding of the more abstract concepts. Presented in the right way, math can be looked at like a game or puzzle, full of sequences and patterns that are easy to recognize and fun to learn.
As an experienced elementary and middle school teacher, I have taught English/Language Arts skills for over 20 years. Also, as an experienced pre-GED/GED instructor, I taught English/Reading/Writing skills for several years at the high school level. Although now retired from full-time teaching, I continue to tutor these subjects to children, teens and adults.
I have been teaching English grammar skills for over 20 years, both at the elementary and middle school levels. I currently teach GED classes at Carroll Community College where I review grammar/writing skills with my students as they pursue their high school diplomas.
As an experienced elementary/middle school teacher, I have taught handwriting (penmanship) for over a dozen years--mostly to children in grades 3 and 4. Beginning with the correct way to hold a pencil, I teach stroke order, size and consistency of letters and fluency. Based on your child's needs, I can show him/her how to improve in these areas with both manuscript (printing) and cursive handwriting.
Many parents who home-school their children are not professional educators, and therefore may not fully understand the content of the subjects they are teaching or the best methods to present new skills to their children. This is understandable, and is why a professional, experienced teacher should be engaged. I am a retired master teacher with over 20 years' experience teaching in the public schools and I have worked with children who are home-schooled. Not only do I help the children in most elementary-level subjects, but I will also help their parents with content and current teaching techniques so that they are better able to help their children when the tutor is not present. I also have had 4 recent years experience teaching GED classes part-time for Carroll Community College in Westminster.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and have taught reading/phonics for about 10 years as a third and fourth grade public school teacher.
As an experienced middle school math teacher and a recent former GED instructor, I have the skills and knowledge necessary to assure your success with pre-algebra. I am a dynamic, patient tutor who will work with your child until he/she "gets" it.
I am a retired public school teacher, and current GED teacher, so I have been doing "public speaking" for over 40 years.
I also have more than 20 years' experience interviewing potential counselors for summer day camp positions, so I know what attributes contribute to a successful interview and a valuable employee.
I will show you how to speak well with knowledge, poise and confidence, and you will impress!
I have taught reading at the elementary and middle school levels for over 20 years. I can help your child to gain confidence in reading as they improve their phonics, fluency, decoding, comprehension, and higher-level reading skills.
I am a retired elementary/middle school teacher with over 30 years' teaching experience. I have been helping students with their study skills for a long time and have proven success in this area.
Although I am not a CPA, I have been completing individual federal and state tax returns for over 40 years. In addition to my own return, I have completed numerous basic tax returns for family members and friends. My accuracy and attention to detail are unsurpassed. I have completed paper returns in the past, but now complete returns using computer software. I will come to your home and complete your tax return for you on your computer or we can do it at my home if you prefer.
With over 30 years' experience teaching all subjects from elementary school through high school level, I have the knowledge and ability to tutor students who wish to prepare for the Test of Essential Academic Skills. Additionally, I currently teach GED classes at the local community college, and the required subjects here are almost identical to those measured/tested on the TEAS. Whether you need help with all of the sections of the test, or just some, I am available and willing to help you.
I have taught writing/grammar skills to children, teens and adults for over 40 years. Most recently, I taught these skills to adults who were preparing to take the GED test.
