Hello! I'm a kindhearted individual who loves making people feel empowered through writing. I have my bachelor's in English and two master's degrees: an MAT in TESL and an MA in Latin American Studies. I recently completed on-the-ground fieldwork in another country and wrote a thesis. I have also published an academic article and co-authored a chapter in an edited book. My academic studies have given me a strong foundation in grammar and linguistics, and I've refined these skills through my 15+ years of experience as a university writing consultant. I support undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students on assignments ranging from introductory college essays to doctoral dissertations. Additionally, I provide strategies for understanding a prompt, developing a thesis, organizing one's thoughts, integrating textual evidence, and editing, with the ultimate goal of independence for each writer. I am an expert with APA formatting, and I also support with MLA and Chicago. As someone with a strong eye for detail, I'd be happy to proofread your paper and send it back to you.

Recently, I have been supporting many students in the nursing or health care fields (especially Capella and Walden), as they often have to write research papers and demonstrate a strong understanding of APA format. However, I support students with academic writing across all majors. My focus is primarily working with students in higher education.

I previously worked at a pedagogy department at a university, where I was trained in helping students pass the Praxis Core: Reading and Writing tests. I have helped dozens of students pass these tests! For more than seven years, I have designed and led group workshops for 100+ students, and I have also trained other tutors in providing support for this test. I take a strengths-based perspective and build upon what students are already doing well; at the same time, we target strategic weaknesses with the goal of accruing more points.

English

I am a bookworm who secretly hopes to write a novel one day. My passion for creativity is what drove me to obtain my bachelor's in English (specializing in writing), and my love for helping others is what led me to obtain a master's in teaching English as a second language (ESL). I spent several years as a teacher at both the elementary and secondary levels, and I also taught remedial English at the university level. I have more than 12 years of experience serving as a writing tutor at a public university. I help students of all levels (undergraduate, graduate, doctoral) convey their thoughts across all majors and for a variety of different purposes. I support with brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing, in addition to checking for style guidelines. I am extensively trained in composition annually at my university job as a writing consultant; furthermore, I also attend weekly professional development sessions, during which I strengthen my skills on styles such as APA, MLA, and Chicago. APA is my favorite!
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I am a certified ESL teacher who has taught ESL at both the elementary and secondary level in the United States. I also spent nearly 2 years total teaching EFL at a nonprofit in Brazil. At my university writing center, I serve as the unofficial ESL "expert" and develop workshops related to multilingual writing. As a linguist, I'm passionate about language learning and love talking about language and culture.
Grammar

Grammar

I received my Bachelor's degree in English and have worked as a university writing tutor for over 12 years. During this time, I would often work with students one-on-one to refine their written grammatical skills. I have also developed and implemented workshops centering around common grammatical errors, like subject-verb agreement. I also tutor future teachers on the Praxis test, which contains several sections focusing on English grammar. As a side note, I'm a total grammar nerd and read about it in my spare time.
Praxis

Praxis

For 7+ years, I have worked closely with a teacher education program at a university to support students with the Praxis Core and other standardized tests. I begin by giving each student a diagnostic to assess their strengths and weaknesses. For instance, as the Reading test has a dozen question types, I assess which tend to be more challenging and teach students strategies for approaching these questions. When it comes to Writing, I begin by assessing students' knowledge of grammar. Then I use a strengths-based approach to fortify students' skills while ensuring there are no gaps in their knowledge. I also help them prepare for the argumentative and source-based essays using a systematic approach. For instance, I provide a recommended number of paragraphs for each task and some suggested sentence starters. Since I have been working in test prep for several years, I have collected a large amount of resources that I share with students who sign up for consistent sessions. Consecutive sessions are recommended to ensure growth. All skills learned within the session have to be rigorously applied during independent practice, and students are given homework and often entire textbooks (eBooks) for such endeavors.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have over 15 years of experience reviewing student essays for a university and have been extensively trained in editing. I have a strong command of grammar, mechanics, and various citation styles (APA, MLA, and Chicago). I am a certified teacher with a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in teaching English as a second language. I enjoy supporting students by ensuring their essays are free of errors and teaching strategies that foster long-term independence as writers.
Writing

Writing

I am a professionally trained writing tutor with more than 15 years of experience supporting students of all levels (undergraduate, graduate, doctoral) at an NJ university. I enjoy helping students of all majors convey their thoughts for a variety of purposes. At my university job, I often help prospective students craft their personal statement for college or graduate school. I also do an extensive amount of test prep for the literacy sections of the Praxis Core and ACT. I do ongoing professional development to keep up my skills with several citation styles: APA, MLA, and Chicago. APA is by far my favorite! I am thrilled to support with any kind of APA task. As someone with a strong eye for detail, I also LOVE to do line-by-line editing. Furthermore, I am a teacher who has been certified in English and English as a Second Language (ESL). I have a passion for helping students achieve their writing goals.

AMAZING

Kristine has been an incredible help to me with my writing. She is incredibly knowledgeable about APA guidelines, a very patient teacher, and very detailed in her work. She responds quickly to requests, and is timely in return of work. She explains things in a way that is easy to understand and she has an in-depth knowledge of APA and writing in general. She is a huge help and I doubt you kind find anyone better to help with writing, grammar, structuring a paper and APA.
