My name is Kessie, and I am a reading and literacy tutor who is passionate about helping children with dyslexia and other learning differences discover that they can read and write with confidence.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Media Production, and I bring over 25 years of experience working as a librarian, substitute teacher, and Information Technology Specialist.
I began tutoring in 2022 as a reading volunteer in my local county public schools, where I saw firsthand how many bright, capable children simply need instruction that works with the way their brains learn. I bring more than 20 years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities, mentoring learners, and documenting educational needs. This background shapes my calm, patient, and highly structured teaching style.
I specialize in the Orton-Gillingham approach, a research-based, multisensory method designed specifically for students with dyslexia, ADHD/ADD, and other learning differences. My goal is not only to improve reading and writing skills, but also to rebuild confidence and reduce frustration.
I currently tutor students virtually from Pre-K through 12th grade and also substitute teach in public schools. Each session is engaging and supportive, using multisensory activities such as movement, dictation, drill cards, controlled reading passages, writing, and games. I repeat instruction until students reach at least 95% mastery and always tailor lessons to their interests.
Parents receive a summary after every session, a personalized intervention plan by the second session, and monthly fluency updates. One second-grade student doubled her reading fluency—from 29 to 58 words per minute—in just two months with one session per week. Results vary, but progress is always the goal.
