This was a wonderful program that gave me the tools and understanding I needed to become an effective teacher.
I started my teaching career in the Teacher's 2000 joint program with George Washington University and MCPS in 1996. I have over twenty years of teaching and tutoring experience with students in elementary, middle and high school. I have tutored in reading, math, science and social studies. I have tutored clients independently, as well as through various tutoring companies. I am open to tutoring online or in person.
I worked in MCPS with the common core curriculum for four years, so I am very familiar with common core.
I love English language arts and I want my students to experience the joy and love of learning I have always had. My extensive experience teaching English here and overseas has helped me understand what students need to succeed. I know that students have different strengths and challenges in their studies. My job as a tutor is to use their strengths to help overcome their difficulties. I know how to use a students interests and goals to help motivate them. I also know how to determine a student's particular learning style and map out a plan to help them find academic success.
I worked for two years in a program at Hoover Middle School with wonderful special needs students on the autism spectrum. This experience gave me deep insight into effective means of finding academic success for my youngsters with autism.
