I like to teach all aspects of the language at once, so that there is no time lost between learning grammar and using it to speak, read or listen. I love teaching because I like to help people make the most of themselves and learning a new language is one of the most important things a person who wants to travel or work with people from another country can do. Learning a language takes both time and effort, but once you've learned it, you never forget.

English is my native language and a subject I have always excelled in. I believe that knowing enough English to be able to understand and be understood by English speakers in the U.S. is extremely important to anyone who wants to live and work successfully in a country where people come from various backgrounds and need to be able to communicate with each other in a language that is common to all. I have tutored privately, personalizing the learning process to help individuals address their specific needs and desires. But I also believe that teaching small groups can make learning a language more fun and give people a chance to really utilize what they learn.

I have many years of experience teaching Russian, as well as living and working in Russia. Since I am bilingual, I can easily explain the function of Russian grammar to English speakers, so that they can learn to analyze text and understand the written word from newspapers to literature. I can also help students with listening comprehension and speaking by providing them with materials taken from a wide variety of sources to listen to and

I enjoyed my time learning with her.

She is professional and structures her lessons appropriately. She reinforced my pronunciations of words and made important corrections on the location of the stress in words. We discussed foods and a few verbs of motion.

Knowledgeable, Helpful, and Efficient Tutor

During my lessons so far with Helen, I already feel that I have learned much more than I could have expected. Helen always has great lesson plans and is very organized, and she is clearly invested in her students' success. Her sessions are entertaining and comprehensive, and each lesson I leave more and more interested in the subject matter than before.

Excellent teacher

Helen has an impressive background having used her bilingual (Russian & English) skills in both academic and professional settings - and, as a beginner, I feel fortunate to have her as my personal instructor in the Russian language.

Patient and focused

First lesson with the kids went really well. Started with the alphabet and moves into short sentences and some nouns and verbs. Reasonable amount of homework assigned.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

We had a great first lesson. The lesson plan was very extensive and well planned out. We started with basic grammar and conjugations. She provided lots of materials to reference and work on during the lesson. Looking forward to our next lesson.

A Gifted Teacher

I highly recommend Helen W as a tutor. I chose her from the description of herself that she provided to Wyzant, and she was everything that we were seeking --and more. Helen is a gifted teacher. She used her varied educational background and extensive linguistic skills to tutor my daughter-in-law from Latin America, who has a medical degree and is working to strengthen her English skills so that she can practice in America. Helen is professional and giving. She provided this student with lessons in everything from grammar to vocabulary and reading comprehension and even medical terminology. The two read together scientific articles and longer works. Helen W deserves the highest rating, and my family is grateful to Wyzant for helping us to find her. Andrea C
