I have been an educator for 13+ years with the District of Columbia Public Schools. Of the 13 years,I spent close to 8 years in the classroom setting primarily teaching fourth and fifth grades. The last five years have been split amongst writing mathematics curriculum, leading professional development sessions and coaching classroom teachers.
My educational philosophy is such that each student has a unique way of acquiring and processing information. Thus, each student deserves an opportunity to be taught in a fashion that's deemed appropriate for his learning style. Understanding how students think about the material is a gateway to helping them discover their mistakes, which helps to increase their confidence and in turn elevates their understanding and success level in the classroom.
Thereby, I aim to provide a safe atmosphere for students to engage with their studies, to take risks in learning/relearning challenging material in order to master the intended skills/concepts.
