I'm a research psychologist and Ph.D. statistician. I'm easy to work with, and have a sense of humor! I've used SPSS statistical software for a number of years and even own my own copy. I've been a luncheon speaker at a SPSS users group. I've worked on a great many applied research and program evaluation topics. These have included a wide range of topics, including: equal employment opportunity, employment discrimination, personnel research, organizational climate, and educational/training/bilingual/longitudinal program evaluation.
I am well-versed in attitude measurement, rating scale development, survey questionnaire design, not to mention a solid working knowledge of sampling methods. I know how to size up research issues, apply univariate and multivariate measurement techniques, program the analysis, set up statistical tables to display the major findings, interpret the results, and write a clear report summarizing those findings.
I've also written funding proposals for a number of consulting firms that bid on government contracts. Thus, I consider myself able to express myself and have a solid command of grammar. I've given seminars and invited luncheon speaker talks on using SPSS. For several organizations I've been a technical resource on research methods, including SPSS use, to fellow employees, and served as a methodology advisor on two doctoral dissertation committees.
On the side, I do a lot of volunteer work: I have experience singing in two choruses and have written press releases for a nonprofit organization for a number of years. I was the varsity basketball game PA announcer at City College of New York for 7 years, and for 13 years swimming/diving meet announcer summers and winters at local recreation club and high school meets. I also narrated a nationally distributed video on dealing with hate crimes. I've tutored first grade reading (to a student whose second language was English, first language Spanish). I'm proud that he definitely benefited from my working with him. I'm a research psychologist and Ph.D. statistician. I'm easy to work with, and have a sense of humor! Milton and I spoke about some pretty heavy statistical concepts in our first meeting. He definitely is well-versed in study design, statistics, and research methods. Being a PhD student, it's tough to find someone that knows the aforementioned concepts in addition to grant writing, but Milton seems to be that unique individual with all of these skills!
Junaed-- Thank you very much for this feedback: knowing that I've been able to help you so much in these three logically related yet complex topic areas makes me feel very good!
Milton really helped me with research analysis using the SPSS statistical data software package. Without him I would not have been able to complete my project. However, after spending two hours with him I was able to feel confident about the entire thing. I would recommend for anyone needing statistics help, SPSS help, or research analysis help, especially as it coincides with the social sciences.
Rachel-- Thank you very much for your feedback. It really was very easy to work with you: you readily grasped how to harness SPSS features AND statistical methods, as two research tools for meeting your data analysis needs. So it really was my pleasure!
Milton is extremely knowledgeable with SPSS but the best part is that he can explain the process in terms that beginner can understand. I was unsure of not only the “how” but as well as the “why” when it came to a process in the system and he was able to teach and guide me so I was able to understand. I would recommend Milton to anyone regardless of his or her level as he is able to adjust accordingly to the student. Excellent tutor!
Ron-- I appreciate your thoughtful comment very much! Your comments hit on probably one of the most important yet not always appreciated qualities of a tutor--- can they COMMUNICATE? It's not always the knowledge that a tutor might have (that some students take for granted), but can they express it at a suitable level, and patiently enough to meet the student's sometimes multiple needs? Again, thank you very much, and I look forward to working with you again!
Milton helped me understand more about t-tests, the t distribution and median split halves for small sample sizes. He explained it slowly and thoroughly. His output print out is easier to read because he formatted it in Microsoft Word. He was very helpful in a very short amount of time because I had a time crunch.
I had an hour long phone discussion with Milton about a project I am working on. I found him very knowledgeable in statistics and he provided me good feedback on the work I am doing. He answered my questions and gave me some good ideas about how to conduct my analysis.
Milton was very nice and generally wanted me to get the concepts. When I logged into my class I realized that I did the questions correctly. I knew the concepts but could remember all of the complex parts of statistics. It seemed like Milton and I worked together and learned together. He is very personable and worked to connect with me
He help me refine and recode my data. He showed me how to analyze the data. I would recommend him. He is flexible with meeting places/time. He is a patient teacher that explains things well. I felt comfortable when I left the session that I could try to do some things on my own.
Milton is very Genius in statistics. You will learn a lot from him. He's very friendly and so kind as well. The very important thing, is that he knows both excel and SPSS. I really recommend him.
Milton helped broaden my perspective on Qualitative research design which is helpful to design of my research study. Milton is a very knowledgeable instructor.
I was very impressed working with Milton. spss methods and data management processes, including the interpretation of analysis outcomes.
Helped with dissertation stats. He made the explanations easy to understand. He has helped me move forward in my goal to complete my paper.
Milton is a very thoughtful and understanding. I am in the early stages of learning about the dissertation process. It takes me a little longer than average to begin understanding how to apply the elements. Milton was very patient with me and provided me with guidance that helped me to gain a better understanding of the elements. I was nervous about gaining an understanding and Milton was able to provide encouraging words that calmed me down and helped me to build confidence in myself. I appreciate that he is flexible, such as meeting via Skype, which saved me a lot of time traveling, while taking care of a family, attending to a job, along with completing school assignments. I look forward to working with him more in the future.
Milton is a great guy and very intelligent. He was able to identify my needs and focus on showing me how to use SPSS to analyze my Dissertation results. I am very pleased with our session. He is also available if I need further assistance. Thank you.
Thank you very much! I guess it came through that I cared about your assignment, and wanted to help you both learn more about SPSS, AND solve the dilemma that you had with the layout of your survey data. It was a real pleasure working with you!
Milton was excellent to work with in all aspects- easy to communicate with, flexible with scheduling, and really helpful in the subject areas I needed assistance with. He helped me get caught up in my grad stats class and assisted me with an SPSS project that I didn't understand. Now I totally get all the concepts because Milton explained them so well. Highly recommended!
Milton was patient with my lack of being prepared to discuss analysis. I think for that reason, the session was frustrating. Milton was able to work out a few problems by hand. I was able to look at what he did later and understand the material more, to the point of being able to work on other problems in the analysis.
Third session: I had a little bit better understanding of analysis questions and we talked about instructors updates to assignment. We also critiqued a research article and I learned to complete thoughts and substantiate my comments. I was able to finish the assignment on my own, and also able to help two peers complete their assignments utilizing techniques I learned from Milton.
In our fourth session, my understanding of so many concepts seem to be coming together. Milton has been a tremendous resource. During our face to face meetings he presents material based on my current level of understanding and encourages me to take the next steps applying what I've learned. I greatly value his continuing support through email correspondence as I synthesize material be learned. Milton continues to be a tremendous asset, supporting my learning. He has amazing talent to recognize my understanding of concepts and take them to new levels.
Milton continues to be very enthusiastic about exploring my assignments, which is infectious.
Thank you Milton for all your help. I learned more from our meetings and your correspondence than I did in class. You get an A+
Consulting Dr. Milton G. was the best decision I made in completing my master's degree thesis. He helped me format my data, enter it into SPSS, run the appropriate SPSS analyses, and output the results. More importantly, he made sure I understood every step of the process and could explain the methods and interpret the results. He's easy to work with and a charming gentleman.
Thank you very much, Judy. I really value the role I played in helping you progress so much in completing the analyses you needed, AND that you were able to so easily understand what your results meant as evidence for testing your research hypotheses.
Yes, you're entirely right - running SPSS or other analyses is only part of the process: it's so much more important to be able to accurately interpret your findings. Yes, we got along very well, and your pleasure at accomplishing so much in a short time was contagious. (I also thank you for the compliment about my being 'charming'): if it made the learning process for you that much more effective, then it made everything worthwhile!
Milton is simply wonderful! Not only does he know his stuff, but he's incredibly patient with someone who has little experience with statistics and tends to be overwhelmed with data analysis processes. His sense of humor is greatly appreciated and his skill set and knowledge base are exceptional. Yet this very intelligent and knowledgeable person is not the least bit condescending.
Milton differentiates his instruction based on the person's comfort level with challenging or abstract concepts. He is the perfect tutor for anyone needing assistance with statistical analyses and especially SPSS. My confidence and comprehension have both benefited from my tutoring experience with Milton. He's the best!!!
Milton has been a very helpful tutor. I have a quite complex data analysis requirements for my thesis and the fact I can count on Milton to help is great.
He is very knowledgeable, and has great experience in statistics.
Milton is an excellent tutor. He was very helpful in getting me to understand some concepts in my statistics course. I would highly recommend him to other students. I will definitely be working with him again.
I used Milton to review a high priority project. Milton has a very diverse background and is able to give good critical feedback. He is persistent, talkative and inquisitive. He has a lot of experience to draw from and gives great feedback. He was very helpful with my project and gave me an honest assessment on my project. I would definitely recommend Milton.
Dr. Milton is a great tutor in statistics and spss and I would like to recommend him for and to other students. Thank you.
Dr. Milton is an absolutely great tutor! He helped me with a radium assignment that I had to complete for my internship. It involved analyzing various zipcodes within howard county that had high radium levels as well as comparing radium levels between years. Not only did he help me with my assignment but he also taught me some new ways as to how to navigate through SPSS. During my 2 hours with Dr. Milton I obtained an abundance of knowledge.
One can easily tell the tutors that have a true passion for helping others learn--with that said, thank you for sharing your knowledge and making one comfortable with asking questions.
Very well prepared, explained concepts clearly and obviously knew the ins and outs of the software. Overall, a very positive experience.
Milton has been valuable to me as I began my dissertation. It was absolutely essential for me to have a statistician when I started and it has been well worth the investment.
Milton was very patient and great to work with. He was able to guide me through some stats and SPSS I was having difficulty with. I highly recommend him!
I recommend Milton. He knows his material and teaches well. Milton can help a lot. Make sure you know exactly what you want to study. Milton can teach it if it has to do with statistics. Spend time on your own getting familiar with the statistical packages. Milton will help you understand the process. Enjoy.
Milton G. has a wide knowledge of statistics and evaluation and is able to understand the question or need almost immediately. He is able to patiently explain the concepts and also context them. He is dependable and reliable when appointments are set up and takes an interest in the student's welfare. I recommend him highly.
I came to Milton as a graduate student struggling with a Quantitative Analysis course and a limited knowledge of SPSS. I've met with him for 2 sessions (approx 3 1/2hrs total). Milton explains topics in a simplified manner. He was extremely helpful in enabling me to grasp statistical concepts and their application for research purposes (He even gave me some good ideas to use in my own research). In addition, Milton provided top-notch assistance with SPSS; which I needed for a statistical research project. I learned how to use SPSS shortcuts and various command functions unknown to me previously. Rather than just saying "click here" and "click there," Milton walked me through the process describing each thing I was doing and its purpose.
Every minute of both tutoring sessions were productive and helped very much. Also, he was very kind to meet with me at a location that favored towards my convenience. I would highly recommend Milton for anyone: struggling with a statistics course, needing assistance with data analysis for research or seeking to learn SPSS.
Milton is an expert statistics and writing coach. I will ask his help on future projects because he is knowledgeable on so many different subjects. Milton expertly uses his knowledge to great effect, improving the project as a "whole," content and format. Thanks again Milton.
I would highly recommend Milton as a guide for anyone looking for an experienced tutor. Milton has a good way of explaining certain applications of statistics and has been very knowledgeable when helping me select the best techniques for data analysis. I prefer concise, short sessions to verify my approaches and Milton has been very amenable to that approach.
Milton was very thorough and helpful in both sessions I had with him so far. I really appreciate the extra time he put in to help me. Milton has gone above and beyond and I am glad he was able to assist me. He did a good job of helping me during our sessions and following up after as needed. I look forward to working with him again in the future.
Milton was a great tutor. He spent 2 hours working with me on a assignment where he was very patient in explaining SPSS and the various features of the software!
He was willing to work with me as I am a deaf person. We communicated through a third party, which is my daughter. I wish I have sufficient money for continuance. I really do!
I was at the end of a summer statistics class. For the final project (a major portion of my overall grade) there were some statistical concepts I was still shaky with and I was not sure how to apply them to intercepting the data. Long story short, I contacted Milton. Due to circumstance, I only had a few hours left – literally; so he looked on my assignment, assessed and provided feedback from what I had already completed. He worked with me through the gray areas by answering my questions and breaking down some of the concepts simplistically . . . and yes he tutored me over the phone! I did well in the class. :-)
Milt was a kind and excellent tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
