My goal is to help you to be heard for WHAT you have to say, not for HOW you say it. I believe that your accent is an important part of your story, but it should be a part of your story that YOU control. Think of your accent training as a button that you can "turn on" or "turn off" depending on the context. My aim is not to eliminate your accent, but rather, to teach you how to incorporate the most common patterns of Standard American English so that your accent is more easily understood by native speakers.
I have been a certified speech-language pathologist since 2013. I have provided individual and group speech and language therapy to students ages pre-K through middle school, and also worked with private adult clients for one-on-one accent training. I taught English as a second language as a volunteer since 2012. For the past five years, I worked on the staff of a non-profit organization as a program facilitator, training and mentoring volunteers to teach English language and pronunciation. I have learned that every student has a unique way of learning which is reflected in my multi-sensory feedback approach.
I believe pronunciation is more than just isolated sounds; it includes complex patterns of melody, stress, and intonation, which are not usually included in English language instruction. I love opening students' eyes and ears to these unwritten "rules" that unlock the secrets of spoken English. Our time together will focus on equipping you with these tools so that you can then continue to train yourself in your communication journey. I hope we can start talking soon so that you can become more confident in what you have to say!
