I am currently a General Studies major at Montgomery College, pursuing a BME in Music Education. I have two years of experience as a Musical Theatre major at SUNY College at Geneseo, as well as a few years of tutoring and proofreading/editing experience, from the elementary to high school level. For several years, I volunteered as a teacher's assistant with a non-profit organization, Project Life, a summer rehabilitation program for orphans from war-torn and disaster-struck countries. My family has also hosted a handful of the program's children over the years. As a volunteer, I assisted in anything from ESL and mathematics lessons and making flashcards, to joining the class for field trips. Being a part of this program has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have made lasting connections to many of the children I've met in the duration of the program. Seeing the remarkable progress and growing opportunities that they have made after returning to their home countries, has created such an unforgettable and warming feeling.
I started my tutoring journey in the fourth grade, going to a second grade classroom to tutor a student during my free time, breaks, and after finishing my classwork early. Throughout the years, into middle school and high school, I tutored several other students, watching their confidence and grades improve significantly. In high school and now in college, I have pretty much been the designated proofreader and peer-editor of my classmates, assisting with anything from grammar and punctuation, to giving helpful suggestions to improve the overall quality of the piece. During the summers, I have helped many theatre students prepare for their musical auditions.
Additionally, I have 10+ years of babysitting experience, which I believe has definitely helped to prepare me for my intended career in education.
I have many years of experience in proofreading and editing pieces of writing, from the elementary to introductory college level. I've succeeded in English 101
