Bio

Hello!

My name is Elizabeth, and I’m Deaf and a native signer of American Sign Language (ASL). ASL has been my primary language throughout my life, and I’m passionate about teaching it to others.

Learning sign language directly from a Deaf person provides a more authentic and immersive experience. I’ve been teaching ASL for over 10 years, including weekly sessions with hearing colleagues, and I’ve found that students learn best through direct interaction and hands-on practice.

I understand that some people may feel nervous about working with a Deaf tutor, especially if you're just starting and don’t know many signs. Please don’t worry — I am very patient, easy to communicate with, and committed to helping you feel comfortable and confident. I will guide you every step of the way.

I tailor each lesson to your learning style and goals. We can focus on specific vocabulary (like colors, sports, or everyday phrases), conversational practice, fingerspelling, or even advanced ASL comprehension. You can bring your own list of words or topics, or I can create a lesson plan for you.

Whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced signer looking to improve fluency, I’d love to work with you — or your child — and support your ASL journey.

I look forward to connecting with you!

Warm regards,
**Elizabeth**

Hard of Hearing

Hard of Hearing

I want to be able to educate people with "hearing impaired" disability the meaning of Deaf Culture and Hard of Hearing culture. I feel that I would be the best candidate for this. I would be able to share information. I have so many experience because I'm Deaf myself and have been Deaf since birth. I went through a lot and would be able to educate and give advice to those who need them. I would share different resources that they will need. For example, I was able to work with a video phone company to provide 9 video phones for the government because there were 9 Deaf/Hard of Hearing employees at that base. I provided an important briefing to the admiral and human resources so the government agency was able to hire a full time interpreter. I was able to win the rights of having interpreters at a public school in my town, which provided access for Deaf and hard of hearing students to learn. I am able to compare the use of hearing aids and cochlear implants and advocate them both.
Sign Language

Sign Language

ASL is my primary language. I was involved in sign language club when I was in middle school and taught my classmates once a week. When I was in high school, I was a camp counselor for 3rd graders and I taught them sign language; not only that, I taught them a song and had them sign at the end of the week for their parents. It was a success! :) When I was in college, I was involved with a weekly sign language club, where we taught other students basic signs and we had interactions between deaf and hearing people so they could learn how to sign. I also took a course, Deaf Culture (Deaf Studies), in college. From time to time, I would go to "meet and greet" at a get together at a nearby mall (food court) to provide access to hearing people who were learning how to sign. I would become their mentor for the day. I've taught a little baby who could not speak due to disability a few signs and that broke the barrier with the parents. Currently, I'm working for the government and from time to time, I teach my coworkers sign languages so they were able to communicate with 9 other deaf and hard of hearing employees here on this base.

Great!!

I met with Elizabeth and I learned about 6 pages worth of signs in an hour. I was able to go back, keep practicing with her, she was very patient and very personable. I will definitely be looking forward to the next lesson.
