Hi, I'm Zach, I am an experienced and passionate educator with over 12 years of classroom teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in History with a concentration in U.S. History, as well as a Master’s degree in Educational Instruction. I currently teach Social Studies and have spent six years teaching at the middle school level and six years at the high school level.

In addition to classroom teaching, I have over two years of tutoring experience. I’ve worked with students from elementary through high school in both one-on-one and small group settings. I currently tutor through a private tutoring company and also offer support to students at my high school. My tutoring spans across a variety of subjects, including reading, writing, math (with a focus on Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II), and social studies content such as U.S. History, World History, African American Studies, AP U.S. History, and AP Government.

My teaching and tutoring style emphasizes making learning relevant and engaging. I believe that students learn best when they can make meaningful connections between the material and their own lives. I strive to cultivate a natural curiosity in my students by modeling my own love of learning and by creating an environment where questions and exploration are encouraged.

I aim to meet each student where they are and help them build both confidence and competence. I welcome any feedback, resources, or suggestions from parents and students to support this journey, and I tailor sessions to individual needs and goals. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or to schedule a session. I respond promptly and look forward to helping you or your student learn, grow, and succeed!

African American Studies

African American Studies

I have taught African American Studies at the high school level for the past five years, guiding students through a study of Black history, culture, and contributions from early African kingdoms to the present day. My approach emphasizes both historical depth and contemporary relevance. I have completed specialized professional development programs through Maryland Humanities and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, focusing on local Black history and the Civil Rights Movement in Maryland. These experiences have deepened my content knowledge and enhanced the resources I bring into the classroom and tutoring sessions.
American History

American History

I have extensive experience teaching AP U.S. History, as this is my fifth year teaching. My instruction spans from pre-Columbian Native American cultures to present-day America, with a strong emphasis on historical thinking skills such as source analysis, argumentation, and making thematic connections across time periods. With an academic background focused on American history and over a decade of classroom experience, I help students engage deeply with content and build confidence in their historical understanding.
Anthropology

Anthropology

I have been a high school Anthropology teacher for four years, where I introduced students to the field as one of the core social sciences and showed how it connects to history and cultural studies. My classes explored cultural universals such as family dynamics, marriage, gender, and traditions, while also comparing cultures around the world with American culture. I guided students through the ethnographic process, culminating in their own ethnographic study of a cultural group, giving them hands-on experience in cultural observation and analysis.
Archaeology

Archaeology

I have taught high school Archaeology for four years, helping students explore how archaeology connects to the study of history and culture. I have also participated in professional development and worked on an actual archaeological dig to strengthen my knowledge and practice. In my course, students learn about the history of archaeology, core concepts, and the process of conducting a dig. In my class, it culminates with a hands-on mock excavation, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in a practical and engaging way, which I can share with students I tutor.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over two years of experience tutoring elementary students in reading, writing, and math. I support students in strengthening their phonics and reading skills, developing them as confident writers, and building a solid foundation in core math concepts. In addition, I have helped students improve their executive functioning, organizational strategies, and study skills to prepare them for continued academic success.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I have taught a wide range of social studies classes, guiding students in writing various types of papers and essays. My experience includes helping students develop strong thesis statements and construct well-organized, evidence-based arguments. Additionally, I have worked as an AP scorer, evaluating essays according to College Board rubric guidelines, which has deepened my expertise in teaching effective thesis and argumentative writing. I am passionate about helping students improve their writing skills and succeed in crafting clear, persuasive arguments.
United States History

United States History

I have extensive experience teaching U.S. History at both the middle and high school levels, including AP U.S. History and Honors courses.
