Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I have been working with InDesign since it was first introduced by Adobe in 1999. Previously, I used both Pagemaker and Quark Xpress respectively. My experience with InDesign extends from newspapers and magazines to its uses for web design and large format printing.

No matter what you need to know about InDesign, I am there to help.

Dreamweaver

I've been working in web design since the early 90's. Before Dreamweaver came along everything was hard-coded and that skill stays with me today. Dreamweaver has proven itself as my go-to web design program. It allows the flexibility to take a WYSIWYG approach or get your hands dirty in the code itself.

My 10+ years of experience with Dreamweaver are at your disposal.

Graphic Design

Communication through art has been a lifelong passion. Through a love of architecture inspired by my hometown of Washington, DC, I found I was just as moved by page architecture - graphic design. I turned that passion into a career of print and web design for companies such as The Washington Post, IBM, and Choice Hotels.

From concept to production I have the skills and knowledge to assist any student with all areas of graphic design.

Photography

My fascination with cameras goes back to the Polaroids and the Instamatics I used as a child. This lead to me being the kid who fixed the film and slide projectors in elementary school to darkroom work in college.

That foundation lead me to a career that includes directing photo shoots, photo editing, and digital photo education.

I can teach you the technical aspects of photography and creative approaches and trends.

Soccer

I was raised in a soccer family in the DC area. My two older brothers and I all played from pre-school through our college days and into adulthood. My highest level of play was in the Allegany Mountain League for Betz Chemical. In my five years on the team we won the championship 4 years in a row, coming in 3rd place the final season. I have played all positions on the field and have coached players of all levels from ages 6-15. Soccer is a passion and way of life.

In addition, I was a site coordinator and head coach for DC United's United Soccer Club.

Web Design

In the early 90's I joined the Washington Post's 'Digital Ink' division which gave birth to WashingtonPost.com. Since those days, I have been part of a vanguard web team with IBM ebusiness, developed portals for Choice Hotels, and taught web design for over 10 years.

I continue to develop my own skills and stay current with technology and trends.
