Excellent Tutor — Clear, Patient, and Effective

I’m brand-new to Farsi, and after just two lessons with Tina I already feel like I have a foothold. She’s clear, patient, and keeps the pace right so there’s no rushing, but we still cover a lot. We’ve focused on pronunciation, useful phrases, and how simple sentences fit together. What helps most is that she explains the “why” behind patterns and gives quick examples that stick. Corrections are kind and specific, so it’s easy to fix mistakes without getting discouraged. She also gives me straightforward ways to practice on my own between sessions. If you’re starting from zero and want someone who makes the language feel approachable and doable, I’d definitely recommend Tina.

This Tutor Makes Dreams Come True

I have been trying to learn Farsi for years. I tried Rosetta stone and “pimsleur” learning programs and eventually got to the point that I decided a tutor might help. I finally found Tina and now I actually think I have a chance of making my dream of speaking Farsi come true! Tina is truly a genius in language. She has a gift for understanding how a person processes language which makes learning from her so ideal. She was able to figure out quickly what level of Farsi I was at. You can tell how genius she is and how well she understands language by the homework she sometimes gives--the homework makes you think (I feel like I'm in school again!) and for people that really wanna learn the language I think that’s the only way--to really spend some time doing exercises and thinking through the dynamics of the language. Her lessons are really well balanced--she asks if you have questions, she has set lesson plans, she’ll immerse you in the language by speaking to you in it to help you learn it faster and more naturally, and she brings real life examples to make the learning applicable and to make the learning stick--and she does all this in a fun, natural way and with her great sense of humor. Tina makes sure you are getting what you want out of the lessons. She is really dedicated, organized, intuitive and passionate and goes above and beyond by sending handouts outside of the session to enhance the learning. Now that I have Tina as my tutor, I finally feel that I have a chance to learn Farsi!

If you want a tutor, look no further- Tina’s classes are the way to go.

In the beginning of my lessons, I was terribly nervous and didn’t know what to expect. Initially, my goal was to learn basic Farsi so that I could say a few phrases in my wedding vows and perhaps have some understanding of the language of my in laws. Not only was I able to say my vows within less than (12) one-hour sessions, but I also learned how to write the alphabet and reasonably sound out words to form phrases on my own. A few classes later and I am now conjugating verbs. Tina is a pure linguist at heart and has a bottomless depth of knowledge when it comes to languages, both formal and informal. She eased her way into lessons so that I was less anxious and taught at a pace that was not overwhelming, while recognizing my strengths and weaknesses so that I was able to build a firm foundation beyond saying my vows. She’s the perfect mix of fun personality and professionalism that makes learning a language a positive experience. I’m on Pacific Standard Time and I’ve had no difficulty arranging classes. In sum, her teaching style worked for me and I imagine she applies her techniques to whatever subject she offers to instruct. I highly recommend Tina as a tutor and I absolutely look forward to continuing my lessons with her.
