Hey, I’m Michael! Science doesn't have to be intimidating. I am a firm believer that anybody can do science with the right toolset. Whether you are a grade school student navigating STEM classes for the first time or a college student tackling upper-level STEM courses, my goal is to make learning efficient, enjoyable, and stress-free. I hold a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Molecular Cell Biology) and a B.S. in Biological Sciences (Neurobiology & Physiology). Beyond just the degrees, I bring 8.5 years of real-world scientific experience, having worked as a cell biology researcher in the biotech industry and as a biochemist for a government contracting agency. I know exactly how textbook concepts apply to real-world science, which helps me explain why we learn them, not just what to memorize.
I have been on both sides of the classroom and know the frustration of not finding the right resources. My teaching approach is to start with understanding the "big picture" core concepts before tackling the details. I strive to create a laid-back, low-pressure environment. Everyone learns differently, so I focus on adapting quickly to your specific needs to help you bring out your best.
I have over three years of experience teaching college-level STEM courses and tutoring high school and college students, in addition to mentoring dozens of junior scientists in professional laboratory settings. I pride myself on being responsive and I will do my best to accommodate your needs. Please contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
