My name is Hellena. I graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a degree in Computer Engineering and a minor in Data Analytics. While I was there, I worked hard and was proud to make the Dean’s List in Spring 2023 and Spring 2024. I also had the chance to publish an article, which taught me how to explain complex ideas in clear and simple language. In college, I worked as a Precalculus Teaching Assistant and a Math Tutor, where I supported other college students in subjects such as algebra, precalculus, calculus, and discrete math. These experiences gave me a strong background in teaching math at different levels and helped me understand how to adjust lessons to meet each student’s needs.

As a tutor, my goal is to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning from their mistakes. I know that math can feel overwhelming, so I like to break down big concepts into small, clear steps and use practice problems to reinforce understanding. I also enjoy connecting math ideas to real-world examples so that students can see why the subject matters. Every student learns differently, so I always adapt my approach, whether that means slowing down, giving extra practice, or trying a new way of explaining things.

I believe that tutoring is not only about improving grades but also about building confidence. I love seeing students go from feeling unsure to feeling proud of their progress. My goal is to help students strengthen their math skills, build trust in their own abilities, and leave each session more motivated to succeed.
