I’m Jacques, an older tutor with decades of experience. I have a Masters in English and am the author of three online university-level courses and three books of poetry. After having worked in a classroom setting for ten years, I moved on to online tutoring and have been doing that since 2000. Over that time, I worked as writer and host of a number of movie and TV analysis shows for an educational TV station. For even longer, I have been a publishing poet and short story writer. In terms of subject matter, I have experience in English, Composition and Communication Studies, but my interests also include pop culture, history, general science, religious studies, game studies and archeology. My students have been, for the most part, university-age.
What I can offer a student is help at any stage of the writing process where they are struggling. My method is to help the student learn to generate ideas, develop various structures, learn research methods and make choices about what to include and exclude and, of course, assist with grammar and other technical writing issues. We can do this through projects I provide that illuminate various stages of this process, but I am also open to following a student’s interests in coming up with topics.
I can be reached between lessons if there are other questions, or to schedule additional sessions. My turnaround time for assessments of students’ work is 48 hours, and 24 hours for and questions.
