I am a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where I received my bachelors in Biological Science. Following my undergraduate career, I was a Research Fellow at the the National Institutes of Health NIH for over 3 years. There, I participated in genetic research on immune dysregulation disorders. During my time at NHGRI, I was an English tutor for Spanish-speaking patients that were residing at the Children's Inn at NIH. I helped patients who were undergoing treatment at the Clinical Center of NIH become familiar with the language by reviewing basic conversational English and explaining some of the medical jargon to create a more comfortable space for their healing.
After my time at NHGRI, I pursued my masters degree in Biomedical Science at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). While in the program, I was an Anatomy tutor for students in the Anesthesiology Assistant and Physician Assistant programs at NSU. I reviewed anatomy and physiology concepts using cadavers and models to cover systems such as musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, digestive, and kidneys. Additionally, I was a biochemistry tutor for students in their first year of the masters program. I held weekly zoom sessions reviewing material from class, such as protein, DNA, and RNA synthesis, DNA replication and repair, glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, nucleotide metabolism, and many more topics covered during the semester.
Teaching students who are enthusiastic about learning has deepened my passion for science and to continue my own path as a student. While I tutor mostly science-based subjects, I am also fluent in Spanish, as it is my first language.
I believe an education is a critical part of one's life, and knowing the arduous path that is getting a higher education, I am determined to help any student that needs and wants it.
Outside of being a student, I am a firm proponent of having a healthy balanced life; I enjoy times outdoors, exercising, practicing and teaching yoga, and going for walks in the woods with my dog.
