Bio

I have over ten years of tutoring and teaching experience combined. After earning a Bachelor's of Science in English, I became a substitute teacher to get experience in education, before deciding to return to school for a Master's of Arts in Teaching Degree. I specialized in Secondary Education with a concentration in English, and I completed all of the coursework for a Master's in Teaching in Elementary Education as well. I have over ten years of tutoring and teaching experience combined. After earning a Bachelor's of Science in English, I became a substitute teacher to get experience in education, before deciding to return to school for a Master's of Arts in Teaching Degree. I specialized in Secondary Education with a concentration in English, and I completed all of the coursework for a Master's in Teaching in Elementary Education as well. I have experience creating and implementing lessons that help students understand and achieve their goals.

I specialize in tutoring elementary students ages 8-10 in both reading and math subjects. I have over ten years tutoring math, specifically upper-elementary school math, including multiplication/division, fractions, pre-algebra, geometry, and algebra. Of course, I am also an experienced English tutor; with younger students, I focus mainly on reading comprehension, while older students have often progressed to learning literary analysis techniques.

I have over 5 years of experience working with students who have IEP and 504 plans, providing an individualized approach to their education. I have found success applying gamification techniques to problems and translating new concepts into real-world examples, and I often use chunking methods to maintain student engagement. In addition, I am fluent in current educational technology services, including Google Classroom Suite, Kahoots, DeltaMath, and EdPuzzle.

I pride myself in giving my students autonomy in their education. I let students pick the problems we work on, describe the issues they are having, and we confront the problem together. I have found that this boosts their confidence and engagement with the subject. My favorite part about tutoring is watching students overcome their difficulties and succeed. I believe that the road to success is not a straightforward path, but a personal, customizable adventure, and together we can reach their goal.

Liars is very knowledgable and very patient!! My child was excited to see their tutor and grasp more of the concepts they worked on!! The concepts covered thus far are word problems and fractions as we prepare for citywide standardised tests. We plan to see her weekly.

Patient, smart, and understanding tutor

Kiara took the time to understand how my child thinks and learns. My child is unmotivated due to lack of academic success. My child needed to feel comfortable with a tutor in order to ask questions and accept/want the help of the tutor.
