My research mentoring comprises personalized one-on-one interactions to teach textbook principles, research project development and experimentation, and research writing.

I have extensive experience mentoring in genetics, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and chemistry (general chemistry and physical chemistry).

I draw on nearly 20 years of research experience to provide concrete examples of concepts that can be difficult to grasp when reading the textbook. I am patient and understand different people learn in different ways. I can present and discuss scientific concepts from many different angles to help you understand in the way that you learn best.

Whether you're looking to pass a test, or just learn more about science, I'm eager to help you out. I look forward to hearing from you!

ACT Science

ACT Science

The hardest part of the ACT science exam isn't memorizing science, but being able to interpret data quickly and draw reasonable conclusions. I have mentored dozens of ACT students to consistently improve their ACT science scores. I can help you develop skills to quickly and accurately digest the information in the passages and then answer the questions by identifying trends and relationships, making predictions, or proving/disproving statements.

Amazing Biochemistry tutor

Scott saved me in my biochemistry class. The problems and questions never made sense to me and he was able to break down the concepts that I needed to know to answer the questions. I felt very comfortable taking lessons with Scott. He is incredibly kind, patient, and non-judgemental about what I didn't know. He was really supportive and able to break down things in ways that were easy for me to understand. I totally recommend Scott if you are struggling with Biochem or want to get ahead in your class!!

Very patient and provides great feedback

I am struggling in my Physiology of a Cell class - mainly being on the verbiage level that I should be. I'm slow at processing class material than most and Dr. Scott is patient with me which is comforting. I don't feel rushed or pressured if I don't understand something right away.

Knowledgeable, efficient, and kind.

Scott was great! He spent a lot of time with me going over biochemistry topics from my medical school course and explained them in a way that made them clear and easier to understand. He always went the extra mile, was very personable and kind, and eager to help. I highly recommend Scott!

So knowledgeable, patient and kind!

Scott is so knowledgeable, patient and kind. He really made sense out of Biochemistry like no one else could have. Thankful to find Scott to help get through and understand the material. I will continue to work with him through finals and beyond for my next science course!

Sold tutor for General Chemistry

I appreciated how Dr Scott broke the equations and offered different methods on how answer them that I was confident using. I used a prior method to solving the equation but was stuck. Turned out I was correct but only halfway done with the process. The session also reenforced the importance of slowing down and looking at the chemical compound correctly, just you calculate late the equation correct my answer was wrong because I failed to identify the chemical. I would highly recommend anyone to contact him.

Knowledgeable and flexible

Scott adapted his explanations to my goals and level of comprehension. As a result I gained interesting insights into the material that I couldn’t have gotten otherwise.

Lesson review

We reviewed a chapter from my class, and went over a problem from my teacher. He was a great help for helping me understand the things that I had previously had a hard time understanding.

Scott has been truly exceptional

I am in a graduate epidemiology program, and Scott helped me in a public health genetics course. Scott is patient and so helpful with all study details. I found him on Wyzant mid- semester, and if it weren’t for him, I might have dropped this class. I’m so glad I didn’t, as it turned out to be one of the most interesting classes I’ve taken so far. Scott helped me prepare for my weekly quizzes, scientific paper discussions, midterm/ final exam preparations, and was immensely helpful with my final project power point presentation. Scott helped me understand detailed genetic concepts- He responded quickly to any questions I had on my material and provided the confidence that I could master this difficult course. I’ve worked with many great Wyzant tutors, and Scott has been truly exceptional. I plan to work with him in the future, as I’ve decided to make my study concentration molecular epidemiology. Thank you, Scott!

Scott is thorough

I like that Scott is thorough in his review of the slides that I have presented from my teacher. The material I have is very dense, and though it may take multiple sessions to review the lecture slides, Scott has been good about getting in a thorough review rather than rushing thorough them as he could do.

Very Good... You get what you pay for and it was well worth it.

He is a bit pricy, but he was WAY better than the $45 hour professor I hired. He explained hydrogen better than most professors and wasn't too analytical. I need to close escrow on a few homes before I hire him again.
