The University of Maryland, College Park (Master's)
Hello Students and Parents:
My name is Yu and I have a master's in math from the University of Maryland, College Park. I have had almost a decade of tutoring experience in a variety of subjects and I've improved their grades by an average of a letter grade. My talent is taking apart complicated systems and breaking it down into easy-to-explain, simple parts.
I enjoy tutoring and working with students, and from experience I understand that different students have different needs. I'm currently running two algebra classes, and several tutoring classes for 9th grade chemistry, Algebra II, physics, and pre-calculus.

Yu L does a wonderful job explaining the material in a succinct, readily understandable, no nonsense way. Very, very helpful.
Great review of basic Chemistry. My son said he learned more in an hour with Yu than he has learned in three months at school. We look forward to working with Yu again.
He was very patient and took the time to ensure that my son understood the concepts. He connected well with my son and was able to help him focus and organize his study of Algebra. We are looking forward to working with him again going forward as my son works through his Algebra 1 syllabus.
Yu was patient, lively and according to my son "a genius", who helped him understand difficult concepts in AP BC Calc. He arrived on time, focused on the task at hand and left leaving my son happy and ready to tackle class the next day.
Yu is the best tutor! He's worked with Geometry and now Algebra II with my son and daughter. The kids learn so much and look forward to their weekly sessions.
Yu is a very good teacher. My son is very satisfied with him. His tutoring is clear and helpful. Now my son's grade of AP calculus and physics have improved. I'd like to recommend Yu to more people.
Yu is a very knowledgeable tutor who can transfer his knowledge in an easy to understand way to his students. I strongly recommend Yu for math, physics, and chemistry.
My daughter says her tutor is "very smart and he knows how to explain math very well, including the theory behind the problems."
Yu explained the concepts to my daughter in such a way that she once again felt very comfortable and excited to learn Physics and Pre-Cal. What she was finding very hard became simple after just 2 sessions with Yu L. Thank you!
Very through with everything he teaches and fantastic all the way through. He helps my son by making up problems similar to the ones in school. Recommend to anyone who needs help in mathematics.
My daughter had a C in calculus after the first quarter. After being tutored the second half of the semester she got an A on her final exam. What more can I say?
He was thoughtful, incisive, clear and comprehensive. Raised my son's quiz and test grades and helped him thoroughly comprehend the material.
Yu definitely knew what he was doing and he helped my son on short notice with very advanced magnet math.
They worked on problem solving and logic strategies as well as math. He worked with both of my children and we really enjoyed working with him.
great guy, very nice, son really likes him, and the proof is in the pudding - A on the AP physics final!!
Zhong (Yu) is very capable and good at explaining concepts that may be difficult for students. He is interested in the subject and people he is teaching.
Our son has been fortunate to have Yu L. tutor him weekly for over a year. These sessions have made a huge difference in his skill level and confidence. His acceptance at W&M this coming fall is due to having such a great tutor. Yu L. is a very skilled tutor - knows the material, is patient, and able to clearly communicate the math.
Yu L. worked with my daughter to help brush up her math for the SAT. He was patient with her but made her work to help her understand the math. My daughter has never been a good timed test taker, especially math, and Yu L. helped get her score higher on the SAT than if she hadn't had the refresher with him.
My 10th grade Hon. Chem. student likes Zhong (Yu L.) very much and appreciates his acumen and ability to dive deep into subject and still explain it well. Highly recommend for GT/AP type intensity-required classes.
My daughter has been very happy with Zhong's tutoring. She finds it very helpful. There were times when tests were postponed and we had to reschedule. Zhong was always very co-operative and accommodated the changes. Thank you very much.
Yu L. is a natural teacher. Not only he has great knowledge of what he teaches but he knows how to respond to the learning style and academic needs of the student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm a Chessmaster. I've been tutoring chess for the last 10 years outside of WyzAnt. I have a US Chess Federation ID number.
I've been tutoring math for a long time. I got a math degree in college, and I've passed classes in abstract algebra, discrete math, and set theory, both of which use formal logic.
