Hello! I'm Mitchell. I am a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in history. I attended Pennsylvania State University before transferring to Salisbury University and completing my degree. During my time at Salisbury, I completed each semester on the dean's list. Academically, I qualified for the distinction of magna cum laude. I previously worked as a summer camp counselor for 6 years, where I discovered my passion for education. One of the most important lessons I learned through this experience is that children learn in a variety of different ways. This lesson serves as the core influence of my tutoring philosophy: adapting lessons and material to each student so that they can connect and enjoy the learning experience. As a lifelong history student, I have seen many of my peers struggle to enjoy learning history; However, I believe that with the proper personalization of lessons and material, each student can unlock their interest in a subject that they might initially find boring.
I have years of experience directly teaching children as a camp counselor. I educated campers in many different areas, including sports like waterskiing, soccer, archery and frisbee. Some of my more applicable experiences include: teaching campers to identify different plants and animals on hikes, instructing campers on how to properly and safely create a campfire, and teaching the history of our campus and the indigenous people who resided there centuries ago.
I want to work with my students and their parents to create a personalized learning environment in which my students are completely comfortable, and benefit as much as possible from our tutoring sessions.
