While a graduate student I was a Teaching Assistant for Physics lecture and lab courses. These courses included introductory mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and optics. I am also an also experienced High School and College tutor in Physics and Mathematics.
Most recently, I spent the past year teaching AP Physics and Honors Physics at Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School, where I developed lectures and hands-on lab sessions, and helped prepare students to take the AP exam. Before joining Beth Tfiloh, I taught college-level physics and astronomy as an Adjunct Professor at several community colleges.
In all of my tutoring and teaching positions I strive to connect with each student, to make sure the student understands the underlying concepts and not just how to solve problems. I show the students how mathematical connections will help them to derive information from previous problems they have solved; this often helps them feel that they can build a knowledge base in which to pull from when tackling a new problem. That can give them greater confidence than merely relying on rote memory for solving math problems and scientific problems. Every student has their preferred way of learning, so I try to tailor my tutoring for each individual.
