Hi, I am Adam! I recently graduated with a 3.91 GPA and obtained my Master of Science in Actuarial Science & Predictive Analytics. I graduated from Towson University - the only program in Maryland recognized as a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries (SOA). I have passed SOA Exam P (Probability) and SOA Exam FM (Financial Mathematics). While a full-time graduate student, I enjoyed helping students feel confident in math both inside and outside the classroom. I worked for a year as a drop-in tutor at my university's Tutoring & Learning Center and a year as a teaching assistant in multiple courses and semesters.
As a drop-in tutor for algebra and calculus, I worked with students on homework, exam prep sheets, online assignments, and quiz practice. Whether a student was stuck on one tricky problem or didn’t know where to begin, I always made it clear that every question is a good question. I like to start by understanding where each student is with a topic, then adapt my approach to fit their learning style. Rather than giving away the answer, I ask guiding questions and offer hints that help students re-evaluate their work and build confidence in their own problem-solving skills.
I also emphasize setting SMART(ER) goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely) so students have clear steps toward independent mastery. As a teaching assistant in probability and calculus, I’ve also gained insight into the concepts and procedures students most often find challenging. Ultimately, my goal is to create a supportive, empathetic environment where students feel confident, capable, and encouraged in their learning.
After graduating and working to begin my career as an actuary, it was important to me to continue the passion I have for tutoring others in the subjects that helped drive my enthusiasm for the work I do.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I will be sure to respond in a timely manner. I look forward to working with you!
