Hello, my name is Ray!I am a certified educator in both Maryland and Texas, with a strong background in teaching and tutoring students across various subjects. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Connecticut and later pursued my master’s degree in Education from Boston University, where I refined my approach to student engagement and instructional strategies.
My teaching experience spans multiple subjects and grade levels. I previously taught 8th-grade language arts in Houston, working with students receiving special education services and students classified as English as a Second Language (ESL), utilizing the Common Core curriculum in Texas to build strong literacy skills. Currently, I teach talented and gifted 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students in social studies, creating rigorous and dynamic lessons that encourage critical thinking. Additionally, I work in an after-school program that integrates the arts with learning, providing students with creative outlets for expression and growth.
Beyond the classroom, I have experience tutoring both one-on-one and in small group settings. Most recently, I worked with freshman math students over the summer, helping them strengthen their foundational skills and build confidence in problem-solving. My teaching approach is rooted in the Gradual Release Model, a structured method that develops student independence through three phases: “I do” (direct modeling and explanation), “We do” (guided practice), and “You do” (independent application with support as needed). This approach ensures that students not only grasp new concepts but also build the skills to apply them confidently on their own.
With my diverse teaching background, academic expertise, and commitment to student success, I strive to make learning accessible, engaging, and empowering. Regardless of the setting, my goal is to help students develop the confidence and skills they need to excel. I look forward to working with students and supporting their academic journey!
