About Kerry

Bio

I have a Master's Degree in Library Science and more than ten years in academic and public library research/reference work, am a published poet (and am minorly (that's not really a word!), obsessed with poetry), and am a former grant writer. I took four years of Latin in high school, four years of French in college (as well as study abroad in francophone (French-speaking) Cameroon, West Africa).

I have a Master's Degree in Library Science and more than ten years in academic and public library research/reference work, am a published poet (and am minorly (that's not really a word!), obsessed with poetry), and am a former grant writer. I took four years of Latin in high school, four years of French in college (as well as study abroad in francophone (French-speaking) Cameroon, West Africa).

Over the course of my education and career I have worked with people from all over the world and of many different cultures and English-language abilities. Literature has been a lifesaver for me - analyzing and appreciating (and trying to get people to appreciate) literature has been the root of my career. Although it is technically out of the scope of librarian duties...proofreading (research papers, letters, resumes, and much more) is a daily, real, in-demand task of contemporary librarians and I have done much of it.

I am, by nature, an encourager. Making literature clear and "plain"/uncomplicated (and enjoyable) is a talent of mine. I am an amazing writer and reviewer/proofreader. I have an amazing vocabulary and am in love with words and their history (word history - etymology - helps with remembering meanings of words).

As a librarian, I was on the library's Workforce Development committee and assisted patrons with resume building, resume review, basic computing classes and job searching classes.

I've taken multiple poetry courses, undergraduate and graduate and have been immersed in the spoken word world for years. I've published two poems.

Helping people get to the root of what they want to say is my strength. Pointing out best strong language for an individual’s circumstance. Getting people to see that they DO have strength in writing by applying what they are passionate about. I am the family bard. People come to me to write THEIR parents’ eulogies, help with college essays, financial aid pleas, and even what to say in a greeting card. I’ve tutored multiple students in writing and editing.

Little, 1 lesson with Kerry

Excellent help, much appreciated

I was struggling to understand this assignment and it makes a lot more sense now. What I liked about the tutoring was that she spent some time before to be well-prepared, and most importantly, when there were audio problems she reached out to find a way to help, which is the complete opposite of other tutors I've had online. Thanks!
