About Michael

Bio

I have masters degrees in both mathematics and physics. I've been teaching all of my life, starting with martial arts in high school and as an artillery instructor in the Marine Corps.

I do not have a civilian teaching certification, but I am certified in the military as an instructor and curriculum developer. In 2016 I was recognized as the Fires Center of Excellence instructor of the year. In 2019 I taught American History 1 and 2 for Central Texas College.

I have a passion for academics and I very much enjoy the active learning process and helping others be successful.

I've always loved math and physics; my college degree was applied physics in aerospace engineering at the Naval Academy. I later economics at the University of Oklahoma, but now I am now a dual masters student in math and physics at the Naval Postgraduate School. My next assignment will be teaching physics at the US Naval Academy.

Please don't hesitate to contact me! Don't let the heavy credentials fool you, I'm very down to earth and enjoy breaking down difficult concepts so they're easy to understand. These are great subjects, but often can be frustrating to learn, especially with bad teachers. I can help!!!

Subjects: High school and college math: Geometry, Trig, Algebra, Pre-Calc, Calculus, Differential Equations, PDEs, Linear Algebra, Logic/Discrete Math. High school and college physics: Newtonian Mechanics and Kinematics, Electricity and Magnetism, Modern Physics, Scientific Computation (in MATLAB). I am also competent enough to tutor high school English, History, and Economics.

MATLAB

I used MATLAB in college primarily modelling astrodynamics systems. In grad school I earned a professional certificate with the math department in scientific computation and used MATLAB heavily with differential equations, partial differential equations, matrix analysis, and modelling weapons systems (CWIS, High Energy Lasers, etc.). I also modelled optimized large scale drone swarm engagements for my thesis.

Knowledeable and experienced tutor who goes out of his way

I hired Michael for MATLAB tutoring and in just a few lessons he has helped me tremendously in answering my questions and helping me grasp and understand the topics that I have been struggling with. I intend to use him to prepare me for Calculus III in the fall. It is difficult to find a helpful and patient tutor and Michael has been what I have needed to help me with this course.

Knowledgeable and clear

Michael helped me understand simple and complex coding for college level MATLAB and he is very respectable and chill. I understood the work clearly and precise after he reviewed it with me. One of the best tutors I've had on Wyzant 5/5!

Incredibly knowledgeable and great at explaining things.

Mike was a great tutor. Needed help understanding some things in my college-level MATLAB course, and he went through and explained the stuff I needed to figure out as well as how to code it in MATLAB very quickly. He left me feeling very confident after just one class; one of the best tutors I've had, 5/5 all around.
