About Laura

Bio

I taught high school math for 8 years in Montgomery County, Maryland. I taught Geometry, Algebra 2, SAT Prep and Pre Calculus. I ‘retired’ to raise my family, but I have been tutoring pretty regularly for the past 15 years. I have mostly gotten clients through word of mouth and through friends of friends, but I thought I would try using Wyzant to get more clients.

All of the students that I have tutored say the same thing- “wow- that makes so much sense” or "why didn't my teacher show us that?" I have the ability to explain math topics in a way that teenagers understand. I won’t talk above their level and expect them to ‘just know it’. I explain topics in full detail and will provide alternate explanations and examples. I bring a textbook with me and sometimes bring worksheets and other helpful tools. I can honestly say that I have helped dozens of kids raise their grade after meeting with me 2-3 times. Sometimes it only takes an hour to teach a student some topic that they just can’t figure out!

I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and began teaching math immediately after graduating from college. I taught a wide variety of students in 4 different subject areas for 8 years. I have also tutored those same subjects for about 15 years.

During the school year, I am available almost every afternoon and evening from 2-8, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. During the summer, I am totally flexible and will work with you to find what works best for both of us!

If you want to meet virtually, keep in mind that I am on the east coast and will only tutor until 9 pm my time!

Laura was able to assess, supplement & communicate exactly what my daughter was missing from her regular H Pre Calc class.
